Architecture in Modern World
Description: Lecture, three hours; discussion, one hour. Introduction to study of architectural history through examination of built world of past two centuries. Building technologies and forms of economic, social, and political life have produced modern built environment that is both diverse and increasingly connected. Focus on factors that have affected architecture globally and those that give regions, cultures, and historical periods their particular qualities. Topics include architectural and urban ramifications of modern self-consciousness, nationalism and internationalism, industrialism, colonialism and anticolonialism, and new art and architectural theories. P/NP or letter grading.

Fall 2015 - dell is pretty boring and he murmurs a lot..so a lot of times i could not really hear him // also i fell asleep a lot of times but you will walk away with this class with something... at least i appreciate architecture a little bit more the textbook is not necessary at all. just make sure u do ur readings! (long...and boring most of the times) i found my section a lot more helpful than lecture. my ta was kristina and she is super helpful and always up for meeting you outside office hours and helping you review!
