Professor Bodiford is extremely knowledgeable on the subject material (he had to miss one lecture because he was requested to give a presentation in France to present at an international conference on Buddhist studies). There is a decent amount of assigned reading, but it isn't exorbitant, and as long as you at least skim the material you won't have any trouble in the class. However, the reading is actually really interesting if you have the time. He outlines exactly what he expects on his exams, which are mostly short answer and one essay question, and his grading is very fair. Most importantly, get Tyler Cann as your TA. He is amazing, and he makes the material so easy to digest. So whatever you do, get Tyler. Overall, fantastic, easy, interesting GE. I got an A and the material has actually come in handy with future employers who have revealed that seeing this class on my transcripts made me stand out.

Prof Carter's Intro to Buddhism class is very enjoyable. However, you might not feel like you learn much, because every class is run like discussion where you have to participate with your thoughts and opinions (about the assigned readings). Any lecture he gives is super short and just serves as a gateway into that day's discussion. In any case, he is a good facilitator of discussion. Writing II component was three papers, the last one being a 10-page research paper. No midterm, easy final (passage analysis). So you will be very busy with this class only at three times basically. Reading load is small for a GE. Lecture/section participation is 30% of the grade. Would highly recommend taking this if you need Writing II

I took him for Korean M60 and Korean 177. I got a B+ in both class (which I deserved). I never did all the readings. He's a generous grader. His lectures are boring its hard to listen to his accent. He gives you 4 short papers to turn in, in which you can choose the readings you want to cover. So you really don't have to do all the reading. The final is either a research paper 6-8 pages or in class essay writing which you are given 6 essay prompts and you have to write 3. He gives you 12 possible essay prompts for the finals. His classes aren't hard as long as you do some of the readings and have a general understanding of Korean history. His lectures are boring but the information does help you when you write the 4 short papers and final. If you're lazy its still do-able to pass. He really wants to help.
