Description: Seminar, three hours. Requisite: Satisfaction of entry-level Writing requirement. Freshmen/sophomores preferred. Reading of remains of ancient Greek and Roman women's writing, including poets often neglected in classics and women?s literature courses. Students develop skills in critical reading and literary analysis. Readings of poetry with material and biographical evidence where possible as well as with modern scholarship on women in antiquity. Consideration of how and why these poets were adapted by later poets. Letter grading.
