Spring 2019 - If you're looking for a Writing II GE, literally any GE would be better! If you want to get publicly shamed in front of an entire lecture hall for not doing a reading, this is the class for you! This professor literally did this to some students in the class and made them leave in the middle of a lecture. This is her main tactic to ensure you do A LOT of reading for each lecture. As for the grading, it is 50% for 2 papers and 25% for participation and 25% for the final paper. The grading is all about the TA so you better pray to get a good one or you're in real trouble. Her lectures are literally her talking for an hour with no slides or any visual aids. If you aren't an auditory learner, good luck! For those who must take this class as Comparative Literature majors, I'd look to another professor to save yourself the pain.

One of my favorite professors. She's really nice and makes the class interesting even to us engineers/south campus people. The books and stories we read (Dracula, Translations, etc.) were pretty good. This might depend on the TA, but grading is very easy with 40% A's and 50% B's.

Prof. Komar is awesome! She is a really nice and accessible professor who is always willing to help you during her office hour. I find her office hour extremely helpful as you formulate your thesis for your papers. I realized it a bit too late and regretted not going to more of her office hour earlier. Her reading list is extremely interesting; I def. enjoy reading the books she's picked. Her lecture is also very thought provoking although at times it seems a bit disorganized. However, she did make efforts to turn her lecture into a huge discussion and especially if you sat in the front row, you would find the 100-ppl lecture really intimate! i love Prof. Komar and would def. recommend her to any of my friends.

Winter 2021 - i absolutely loved this class! i took it as my writing 2 requirement and i was initially scared about the workload but this was super manageable. tbh i spent muchhh more time interacting with my TA instead of Professor Levitz, but she was still a great professor as well. i would often just watch the recordings of lecture because it wasn’t participation heavy at all and it was easier to watch sped up lol. you can also scrape by without going to lecture if u just do the readings. the course material is covered some interesting short stories, we also read Passing and Frankenstein. i wrote 3 papers for this class, and the final paper combines one of the previous essays and has you compare it with a new story. there were a few discussion posts throughout the quarter but not every week. i think the most important aspect of this class was the discussion sections. you definitely need to come to discussion prepared but they are well guided and the TAs were pretty chill. i participated in discussion a decent amount and i was worried i might get an A- in the class based on my essay grades, but the TA basically confirmed i would get an A regardless bc of participation. regardless, this was a super cool class and i definitely recommend it! if you have to write essays to graduate you might as well write about something interesting
