Understanding Technology in Modern Society

Description: Seminar, one hour. Offers nontechnical students holistic overview of technology's core concepts: to think through basics of how it works, why it was made way it was, how it generates money, and what kind of social consequences it produces. Weekly topics with case studies answering common questions such as: why are apps free to download, how Facebook knows I'm liberal. Covers topics such as app economics, cloud, hardware, big data, and brief overview of technology policy, trends, and current events. P/NP grading. Facilitated by Yvonne Chen, with Ryan Rosario as faculty mentor.
