Class: Korea 50 Fairly easy class. Weekly 1 page paper and attendance was worth 60%, pop quiz 20%, and another 20 for final. Pop quiz was T or F question and final was T and F and multiple choice questions. He gave us an hour to finish the final but pretty much everyone finished in 30mins, all u gotta do is study the key terms that he gave us by coming to lecture. Absolutely recommended for GPA booster

SEAS 1: I have never read so much in my life. This guy requires you to do a TON of weekly readings (80-100 pages/week in pdf articles). We finished the entire textbook in like 3 weeks. There's also 2 papers that you have to do, one of which is an analysis of a novel (go figure). I've worked my ass off in this class and ended up with an A-. It seems like most students revert to a "pass or no pass" grading system halfway through the quarter. His exams aren't exactly easy either. There's a ton of fill ins, matching, and multiple choice questions and a couple essay questions at the end. What really pissed me off was the fact that he expects us to complete all of this in 50 minutes! If we had more time, I probably would have gotten an A in the class. Seriously, this guy is so inconsiderate and clueless about time. He also lectures really quickly to cram in as much material as he can so we'll be accountable for it on the exams. My TA Dahlia was great though. She was really helpful and gave good exam reviews.

I had Chinese 1-6 with Professor Fu. She is an EXCELLENT Chinese language teacher. She is very detailed in explaining the grammar points and vocabulary usages which is very helpful for the serious language student. She makes her own detailed/organized notes alongside the textbook (she even prints/staples them for everyone in the class). Her efforts are noticeable. In addition, Fu laoshi is really good about trying to keep up with the latest teaching methods and foreign language acquisition research. As a foreign language learner who has nearly mastered one of the languages with the most difficult grammar (English!), she definitely knows what she is doing. I feel really lucky to have had Fu laoshi as a professor these past years and wish there were more upper division professors like her. One thing is I think the grading system could have been a little harder and the class a bit more rigorous. I did enjoy that it wasn't at the time since it's so busy w/ other classes but it's hard not to push Chinese to the side to do better in the other classes that grade so much harder. All in all, I highly recommend Dr. Fu. Her teaching methods, efforts, and teaching style are all top notch. You might not appreciate her style at the moment since she teaches 1-6 and those are for beginners, after you have had other Chinese classes/teachers you'll realize what you had! :)

I took Honors 12 with Scharfe and he is amazing!!! Classes are a little long but he is such a sweet man and is INCREDIBLE with the amount of knowledge he has about India. He really wants people to learn and has funny stories to tell. He even brought us Indian sweets on the last day! There is only one presentation on a book about Indian culture or literature which you get to choose, and as long as you complete it in a timely fashion and don't screw up too bad you will get a good grade. This class is AWESOME!!

FOR EAST ASIAN 60: Schopen is purely brilliant. As the winner of the MacArthur Fellowship award back in the 80s, he is a certifiable genius. If you appreciate a professor who knows his stuff, then I definitely recommend Professor Schopen. He's funny, easy going and overall great. I learned more than I ever have in a class, and the format for the midterm and final are extremely generous. He gives you five questions that can be answered in a short answer form. Then, when you show up for the midterm and final he writes two of the five proposed questions he gave you a week before. You MUST show up for lectures. It is essential for passing the class. The reading is unnecessary if you show up. In his lectures he literally cites the most important quotes from the texts that he perfectly sets up for you to use on the midterm and final. TAKE THIS CLASS!

If you (like myself) like your professor to be organized and to present the class material in an efficient way then DONT take any classes with Tangherlini! Sure he is fun and interesting, but that doesnt really mean all that much when you are trying to figure out how to write a 10 page paper when nothing has been covered! Trust me, it is not worth it, the class is not as easy as people say.
