Tech and Education.. Interesting guy, a little weird at times but the class overall was not difficult.. its a grad and undergrad class with a couple of books to read, one final paper, a presentation, and thats pretty much it. It sucks cuz i got an A- even though i thought i did pretty well on the final but since it is grad and undergrad, undergrads have a more difficult time getting an A.

Fall 2019 - Took the history&philosophy of sports/PE with prof Mechikoff and absolutely loved it. It's one of my favorite education classes I've taken at ucla. Every week there's a test about an assigned chapter in the book, but the readings really weren't too bad and once you got to class, he would spend half the time reviewing and clarifying things before the test. Once you finished the test you could just leave too. Some classes we watched sports related movies and they were all pretty fun. There's also no hw, just prepping for the tests. Honestly, I found the class pretty relaxing and a good break from my other more demanding classes. I really love how he knew so much about the subject off the top of his head and would just tell us little anecdotes about things to help us learn. The topics we covered in class were actually really interesting. I wasn't so much into the philosophy portions of the class but really enjoyed learning about the history of sports. Also, he would bring in historical artifacts for us to see and even gave us some old coins! I highly recommend the class if you're an ed major/minor or just want to take an easy, interesting upper div elective

The most boring and un-engaging, education studies class I have ever taken. If there wasn't any credit for attendance, nobody would show up to class. She reads off powerpoints that are not even organized and filled from top to bottom with text. Sadly, I'm not even exaggerating. Avoid if possible.

Fall 2017 - Ed187 with Professor Omwami was an enjoyable class in the sense that she's super sweet and the topics can be interesting. The coursework isn't overwhelming (a few two-page papers and simple analysis of public education data) and the final paper wasn't too complex. However, Professor Omwami usually doesn't do a good job explaining things clearly. Just try to keep it simple and utilize the TA or your common sense. I liked the class but it did take a while to grow accustomed to her style.

Spring 2021 - Karen Quartz is the nicest professor! She cares deeply about her students and tries to ensure everyone is comfortable and learning. This course (187- Variable Topics in Education: Democracy, Justice, and Education) was graded on participation, a large group project/ presentation, and an 8 page final paper. She grades very fair and as long as you come with a positive attitude you will do well.

Fall 2018 - Professor Raia is absolutely amazing. Although there is quite a bit of writing (easy though) each week it is easy to get through. She is funny and the class ends up all being friends (but not in a cheesy way). Material is super interesting and although class is 2 hours it feels like its only a 50 min session. Highly recommend, easy marker and allays making us laugh.
