Ecology
Description: Lecture, three hours; discussion, two hours. Requisites: course 100, Life Sciences 1 or 7B, Mathematics 3B or 31A or Life Sciences 30B. Highly recommended: Mathematics 31B, 32A. Designed for departmental majors specializing in environmental and population biology. Introduction to population and community ecology, with emphasis on growth and distributions of populations, interactions between species, and structure, dynamics, and functions of communities and ecosystems. P/NP or letter grading.

She is a very good professor and overall cares about the material she is teaching to her students. She really wants her students to grasp the material and would prefer not to move on if there are still strong concerns which I think is amazing. However, she can be very aggressive and intimidating in certain situation which may show a side that is not really her true character. She is really helpful and really breaks down the material to you, especially on one on one. The quizzes were a little annoying but it really does help you stay on top of things having one every week or basically every lecture. I just wish we knew exactly when the quizzes were and if were going to have two in one week in advanced. But overall interesting class I didn't care for ecology before this, but Professor A's mathematical approach shows proof to models that we only hear about.

Fall 2019 - Bucciarelli is a great EEB professor. He has engaging lectures and good sense of humor. The structure of the class was 2 lectures and 1 discussion per week. Although there were 2 lectures per week, one day would be lecture from the prof and the other lecture for that week was actually a discussion format. During the discussion format, everyone bought in articles related to current topic and people would share their articles with the class to discuss. Prof does amazing great facilitating this. This may not spike your interest but some of the articles were very interesting. Also, this was an easy way to get participation points. During lectures, there are weekly quizzes to make sure you did the reading beforehand. Discussion material is not related to the lectures at all. Your discussion grade depends on a group project you are assigned. The group project was to conduct a field study in the botanical gardens. The whole purpose is for you to gain an understanding of how ecology is studied in real life. Not a difficult project overall. Tests were very fair. One midterm and one final (noncumulative). Tip for class: Stay on top of the reading, textbook and articles assigned. Study for the quizzes. Take good notes on textbook and lecture slides.
