Description: Lecture, three hours; discussion, one hour. From breast cancer and heart failure to self-injury, obsessive-compulsive and eating disorders, all contemporary medical issues have evolutionary roots. Understanding of application of evolutionary thought to issues faced by physicians, veterinarians, psychologists, and other healthcare providers. Development of awareness and understanding of evolutionary roots of these disorders provides future healthcare providers with expanded perspective that enhances their practice and benefits their patients in whatever field they enter.
