Winter 2016 - She's a really nice professor. We only had 3 essays total and the topics were very relevant to our generation. We talked about social media and the pressure of colleges on younger children. She will take time out to help out and really tries to make the class engaging. Definitely would recommend taking english comp with her

I agree with the other reviews given about Gerrard. She is a wonderful lady whose truely concerned with the students' learning. Your grade for the EngComp3 class is based on 3 papers, each worth 25%, and a participation grade worth 25%. You will really learn a lot, especially on how to improve your wrting skills. With each paper, you can turn in as many drafts as you need, and she will return them with constructive critisms on how to make it even better. I strongly encourage anyone to take a class with her. You won't regret it.

Fall 2016 - Grading in this class is very subjective. I brought my essay into her office hours a few days before it was due for revisions, and she gave me a bunch of revisions to make. Then I asked her, "If I were to hand in this essay as it is, what would I get?". And she said, "I can't answer that question... I'd have to read everyone else's essays first and then see." That made me mad, because the quality of my writing should not depend on anyone else's. I actually made all the revisions she had told me to make, and only received a B- on the paper. To give y'all a sense of how good a writer I am, I got a 3 on the AP Lang & Comp exam, and only answered 39 out of 50 of the multiple choice questions. That's right; I ran out of time and left 11 questions blank, yet my writing was so good that I still passed. There's no reason I should've gotten a B- in composition. She's a chill professor and gives only like 3 essays throughout the quarter though... if you can figure out how to write in such a way that she likes, you should be fine.
