Winter 2022 - I agree with the most recent reviews. The reviews from previous quarters were super misleading. I came into this class thinking that the prof would be super understanding and that the content wouldn't be hard to grasp but it ended up being the opposite. Her emails would sound more like threats at times LMAO, and the lectures were extremely boring. By the final weeks of classes, less than 40 people showed up to lecture. The tests were also hard for no reason. We had to use Respondus, and the final was a 3-hour 80-question test, which I think is way too much for a GE. Plus, the questions were HELLA specific and the final was cumulative so if you didn't know every detail from all 10 weeks, you would fail guaranteed. We had assigned quizzes each week, and sometimes there were questions on there that wasn't ever addressed in the lecture, so I'd end up guessing the answers. The only good thing about this class was that my TA Francis was cool, and the labs were easy. But I honestly wouldn't recommend this class, at least if you're looking for an easy and interesting GE with a good prof.

Boring and strict teacher. She lectures with a raspy voice, and demands attention. I was struggling to stay awake in the class. The class is rather easy if you're aiming for a B, but you do have to put in work for an A. If you can stand boredom for a somewhat easy grade, go ahead and take this class.

First off, the material is TOTALLY awesome. Earthquakes in CA?? Where else can you learn that better? His class, ESS8 though, is not what you would expect. The final exam has a ton of math on it which if you aren't a south campus major will leave you scratching your heads. I understand if the math problems were "plug and go" problems but they AREN'T. You literally have to sit there and THINK about this shit. THAT is pretty bad, especially since there were like 30 problems of 100 on his final like that. That's my only complaint, otherwise the course was enjoyable.

So this class was pretty tight. Harrison keeps content pretty interesting. You can find a mojority of his mid term and final exam questions in the test bank. I aced everything in the class, but then got a D on the final (the class average) and it brought me down to an A-. Pretty upset about that, but other than that, good class! I would recomend it to anyone.

Winter 2017 - I would have loved this class, BUT Professor Meng is superrrr boring. It's not an exaggeration. His classes are an absolute DRAG. I always ended up teaching myself what he said in class, because I drifted off al lot. Other than that, this class was pretty cool. The field trip was fun, and Professor Meng has JOKES. I really don't know how someone so funny can give such boring lectures. The labs were super easy. I found the midterm and final really hard but that's probably my fault, for not paying attention.
