Fall 2021 - I would recommend this class to anyone who wants to learn more in general about American Indian history and their musical styles. Professor Browner is funny, engaging, and very knowledgeable about the material covered. The assignments include 4 listening papers (you basically just have to write 2-3 sentences each about several short musical tracks) worth 10% each and a midterm and final both worth worth 30%. The exams were both take home essay format, and she emphasizes in the prompt that you should reference material from lecture, the listening, and the *course reader readings*. I think several people didn't reference the readings and didn't do so well, but I followed the prompt and got 100% on both exams. There is some busy work involved but I still had a great time in the class and I think it's definitely manageable if you pace yourself. I feel like I learned a lot and overall would recommend this class!
