Fall 2018 - So overall Global Pop with Dollar is really easy. There are two papers (one of which you have to go to a world music concert for) and two exams. They are both ridiculously easy (I think the average on the midterm was around a 95%). The only downside to this class is that the two hour lectures can be really really boring. Like so boring that 20/300 people dropped in the first week. HOWEVER, if you stick through it the class is a very easy A. He also gave 3% extra credit with a writing assignment based on one of the documentaries watched in class. The playlists aren't really that important to listen to except for the midterm and final playlist (obviously).

Fall 2015 - I thought the class was going to be less work based on the ratings, but it turned out to require a good amount of reading and writing. My TA was a fairly nice grader, though, so it wasn't too bad. I can see how people could find this class overbearing at times, since the professor does require you to identify songs and memorize information about them, but it's nothing excessive. If you just attend lecture, take notes, and memorize the songs on his playlist, your grade should be fine. Even if you don't attend lecture, he gives you a review sheet with a list of terms that you should know for the final, and you can just fill out the list with information from Wikipedia.

Fall 2020 - Professor Tran does a great job teaching the class topics in lectures. The class was in an asynchronous format. It was one of the first classes I took as a freshman last quarter and I found the work manageable to do. There was a one page assignment due every week and a group project. I liked learning about pop music from other parts of the world that helped increase my global awareness: music covered in this course include K-Pop, South Asian Pop, and music in Eurovision.
