Description: Seminar, three hours. Historical study of way in which philosophers, social theorists, and cognitive scientists have characterized relationship between rationality and emotions, culminating in emerging consensus that emotions can positively influence rational decision making. Readings range from philosophy of ancient Greeks to writings of contemporary neuroscientists. P/NP or letter grading.
