Fall 2019 - This is not a very tough course, and the professor is very friendly and easy-going. The grading mainly distributes on the research paper, attendance, participation, and quizzes. It is important to attend lectures because that is where you get your attendance and participation points. Lectures and reading materials will help you in preparing quizzes. The professor is very inclusive in terms of the research paper topics, as long as it is related to Chinese politics and the environment. You can always discuss with the professor about the research paper, she is very responsive, and she gives very useful feedback to help you boost your grade.
Fall 2019 - This is not a very tough course, and the professor is very friendly and easy-going. The grading mainly distributes on the research paper, attendance, participation, and quizzes. Fall 2016 - Take IA 1 with him. Lecture does not count attendance but is helpful if you can go. Grade break down : 1midterm+ weekly response 350-500+ final+ discussion TA Beer is extremely nice and helpful! Discussion count attendence and require activeness, But the discussion is very engaging! Grade is not harsh. As long as you try your best, you can definitely do it!

Fall 2016 - I took a class with her on Chocolate in the Americas. (I honestly did not know that could be a class). It was a lot of fun. We always ate chocolate or some sort of snack and got points for it. I thought she was funny though I do appreciate dry humor such as her comment about how companies are not allowed to write "love" as a food ingredient. She was very kind and worked hard to ensure that the class was a positive experience for those interested in the material such as taking us to the Fowler Museum and to YRL Special Collections. She is also a fairly lenient grader. My one and only complaint was that it was annoying dealing with students chatting during a documentary or texting on their phones on full brightness. I would recommend this class for those in International and Area Studies majors, especially those in Latin American Studies. Just please take the course seriously.
