Fall 2015 - Of the 3 professors for LS1, (Alfaro/Lloyd-Smith/Yeh), Dr. Lloyd-Smith was my favorite. His lectures are engaging and his slides are formatted to be an excellent study tool. He uses a separate book from the other two professors, but I found it to be crystal clear and supported/elaborated what he talked about in class. Plus, he is canadian, and every once and a while will say something that sounds uber canadian. Overall a really sweet guy, who is passionate and engaged in what he teaches.

Winter 2017 - This review is for LS 7B, which has the same content as LS 2. Dr. Phelan's class is hard. I highly recommend taking another professor's class, simply because his exam are harder than other LS professors. He is an excellent lecturer and understands what he is talking about, but his exams are on a how other level. As for how to get an A, do the following: --make sure you do EVERYTHING in launchpad to the best of your abilities; you want to get 50/50 for all 3 caterogries of launchpad --get full credit for your lab assigments, which will come out to a huge portion of your grade --make sure you get your clicker points in --at all review sessions, record what he is saying so you can copy it down again and look up the answers. This will be a huge help, especially on the final --do the objectives on all the pre-class worksheets This class is doable, but I would highly recommend you go for another professor.

I took this class first quarter of my freshman year at 8am and still managed to pull off a B+. The class isn't that hard to understand, you just have to do a lot of memorization of kinda pointless stuff if you want to get good grades. I don't get why people are hating on her, sure she's not the best teacher I've had, but she's not rude or stupid or anything.

I took Psych 115, not LS1 (they didn't have 115 as an option in the scroll down menu) This is not the easiest class, but the material is fascinating. You can do well if you take his advice: skim the lecture notes/book beforehand, go to every lecture, review the book in more detail after. It's EXTREMELY DOABLE as long as you don't get behind! I got a B in this class as opposed to an A because I didn't take his study advice! He's a great professor, and the only one I've known so far who tried to learn the names of the people who sat in the front. The people who complain about not doing well in this class likely did not study hard enough. Like I said, it's not the easiest class, but a little hard work and you'll do well!

Professor Shin is really funny. He makes LS1 a decent class by making seemingly boring concepts like evolution into interesting topics. He has a great sense of humor and cares for student learning. His tests aren't your typical "memorize and regurgitate" type of exams. Especially for the first exam, which is on evolution, he really tests on whether you understand the material not if you just know what the definition of evolution is. Make sure you understand the concepts and memorize the lecture slides. Otherwise his class is pretty enjoyable! I know many students complaining about his curve, which I admit isn't the greatest, but the workload during the summer is way way way less than the amount of work kids put into LS1 during the school year (especially in demos).

Fall 2015 - Dr Yeh taught the last section of LS1, after Dr. Alfaro and Dr. Lloyd-Smith. Her section of the class was very interesting, and her exam was pretty fair. I could tell she was very passionate about her field. One good and bad thing is that her voice is very soft. This is a good thing because it makes re-listening to lectures very soothing, but beware, because it may make you sleepy. She was very nice whenever I talked to her after class, and I would definitely take more classes with her.
