Probability Theory
Description: Lecture, three hours; discussion, one hour. Requisites: courses 32B, 33A, 131A. Not open to students with credit for course 170E, Electrical and Computer Engineering 131A, or Statistics 100A. Rigorous presentation of probability theory based on real analysis. Probability space, probability and conditional probability, independence, Bayes' rule, discrete and continuous random variables and their distributions, expectation, moments and variance, conditional distribution and expectation, weak law of large numbers. P/NP or letter grading.

Tonci is a fun and friendly professor. He seems to explain the materials in a very hasty way, but if you can keep up with him, you will have a very good command of the class material at the end of the class. I didn't really go through my notes or textbook before the test. To prepare for his exams, be aware that his tests are very challenging and could be harder than assignments or practice tests. The final is doable but it's kinda impossible to do perfectly on it. The median of the class is usually below 50/100, fyi. The grading is fair.

I've taken PIC10A, math 170A and am taking math 135 with Dr. Barbaro, and she is my favorite professor at UCLA. Her exams are often tough and long and require extensive studying, though her homework is usually given in reasonable amounts. She is extremely available to help you understand the problems, and will put problems directly from the homework onto the exams so that some of the proofs/problems look familiar. I am impressed by the way she often provides alternative ways of understanding concepts, she gives skeletons to all the proofs she does so that it is easy to understand and study them for the exams, and she will give you extra material to help you study. Best of all though, she is extremely nice and really cares that her students are understanding the material. She never gets upset if she has to repeat things or if students get totally lost.

he didn't teache anything at all. kinda went over some formulas that were in the book but sisnt't explain the, very well. the only people who got A's were the actiarial plan students that were able to teach themselves. the first midterm was deceptively easy, straight out of the book. the second midterm and final were a whole bunch of wtf?s
