Spring 2020 - 5/5 in every category. Don't listen to the Bruinwalk reviews for his 170E class. Prof. Chan is a really good teacher : his slides/notes are very clear, he cracks jokes a lot, his class is easy, and he is very enthusiastic. All of the above made it actually enjoyable to watch his lectures over zoom, which is really saying something.

Fall 2020 - After reading all those "great" reviews for this professor, I thought its a good choice to take Math 170S as one of my elective class, but I can't describe how awful this class was. Imagine someone just reads you the lecture note pdf that is already uploaded, word by word in slow motion and leaving the questions unsolved, then having a quiz every other week which takes so much time with only 2hr limit time. (Btw if you f*ckup your midterm, quizzes will worth 50% of your grade so really be careful on quizzes). Finally both midterm and final was the worst and impossible to pass since the instructor will be grading it himself with absolutely no partials. My advise: This class is far away from being easy and useful, so don't waste your time on taking Math 170S with LYU and try whole quarter to pass the class, either take someone else or ovoid probability and stats.

Winter 2021 - Grade Composition: 45% Midterm + 25% HWK (Assigned weekly from Week 2 to Week 10; 9 in total) + 30% Final The Professor was very willing to help during his Office Hours. He did give clues to challenging homework problems. The distribution of easy, medium, and hard questions on the exams was around 50%, 30%, and 20%. The only thing I disliked about this class might be that my TA could hardly speak English. I simply skipped discussions and hardly took advantage of any resources from her. Fair Professor and pretty tough class for me, so definitely requiring some hard work.

Summer 2021 - Awesome prof. Tests were long because of COVID but they were fair and tested material we learned. Everything was so clear and reasonable and sometimes funny- every topic was explained very well and each exam and some lectures had great LOTR and pop culture references. Just know calculus and your 170E/170A/Stats 100A material decently enough and you should be fine, just remember to do the not-assigned practice problems. (P.S. Take this instead of Stats 100B any day, it's the same material minus some linear algebra stuff but explained soooo much better. I took the first couple weeks of 100B and everyone kinda hated it.)
