Professor Chatterjee is the best professor I've had at UCLA. He is like a loving grandfather- always concerned about his students and makes sure everyone understands the material. He even gives us his phone number so that we can call him for questions. No other professor has done that for me. His tests are fair, especially since he tells you what will be on it and makes sure you understand all the material. Overall, he's a wonderful persona and a great teacher.

Awesome Teacher! Teacher material very well. Lecture very helpful. I like how she does practice problems during lectures...not just theory. I didnt do so hot on the midterm, so she offered redemption in the form of extra credit on final. Not sure if i got those extra credit, but atleast she tried! She gives mostly A's and B's which is also good!

Winter 2020 - Tough professor, and you never know what you expect. Very clear and helpful, funny, and gives lots of life lessons. Prof. Goyal is the best professor I had, his industry experience brings this course to another level. Extremely responsive and run the class like an orchestra. TAs were spectacular as well. Thank you Prof Goyal!

Fall 2020 - Vijay Gupta will take you on a roller coaster of emotions throughout the quarter. He started off weak by drawing 18 "arbitrary potatoes" the first lecture confusing the whole class. But then the next 5 weeks were hella solid imo and he taught the concepts pretty well. Right before the first midterm he'll tangent and tell you how he solved a murder trial using the strength of a bottle of wine which was dope, but then you'll get a 70 on the first midterm because its super hard. Then he'll teach super well again and surprise you with a week 10 midterm making you wanna cry. But then the midterm is super easy and all 3 problems are straight from lecture! You'll get a 90 something because all my homies hate algebra and start studying for the final. THEN the night before the final he'll tell everyone to check CCLE for a Christmas miracle and he gave everyone A's to B+'s and changed the final to be one question and if you get a 50% you get an A. Somehow not turning in a HW and getting a 70 on the first midterm got me an A. This man works in mysterious ways and I love him. If you get this silver fox as your prof, it'll all work out, just your mental health may take a slight toll.

Winter 2021 - Jin is honestly really on top of it--she has her lectures well-planned and is very good at giving us a clear view on what we're learning. She warned us many times that the strength of materials portion would be way more challenging than the statics portion, which was a good heads up to not slack off. Lectures are long so it's kinda hard to pay attention the whole time especially on Zoom but every single word she says is very beneficial to doing well in the class. She also was very reasonable about due dates and accommodations and gave us more than one chance during the quarter to give her feedback on the class structure. If you pay attention in class, do all the psets, and truly understand the derivations, you should do okay. There was a midterm around week 6 and then a quiz and final--they were very fair in my opinion, but were challenging because you really had to manage your time well. I honestly just struggled a lot with accuracy in problem-solving since a lot of the problems involve a ton of algebra.

Great professor! Really passionate about statics. He always welcomes questions and is willing to clarify anything anyone has questions on. His quizzes are pretty straightforward and aren't difficult. Advice: Do the homework. A lot of his quiz questions and exam questions are like the homework problems. Midterm and final are more challenging, but doable. He podcasts his lectures, but I would still advise you to go, since he once told us an exact question on an exam. Of course, he turned off his microphone, so only those who showed up could hear him. Earned an A in his class.

Winter 2016 - Lynch is a really really nice guy but not a very effective professor. He often goes off on tangents or will try to explain a concept and end up confusing students even more. His tests are alright - pretty fair. Make sure to read the book thoroughly and do a lot of the practice problems. I would not like to take a class with him again but it's also not the end of the world. Not an easy class but not difficult either. Rely on outside studying a lot. Your in class notes won't make much sense because his lecturing is not that organized.
