Not a good teacher at all. As other say on top, he just reads his notes and rewrites some stuff on the board. I saw no point of attending class. However, he does care for his students that he knows who comes to class or not. He always talks in condescending tone and his answer doesn't even help for student to understand the stuff. Don't expect to learn anything in his class. However, one good news is that he lets his TA write his exam. If you get a good TA, the exam will be piece of cake.

Fall 2021 - DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS with Amar!!!!!!!!!!!!! 105D material is inherently difficult to capture, but Amar makes it even more difficult by not engage the material clearly. He barely know technology, including writing on surface / iPad, which makes taking a class with him a terrible experience. He talks really slowly and without a focus on what is important, he goes everywhere. The homework is A LOT and was BARELY RELATED to the material covered in class. Half of the equations used on homework does not even appear in class lectures, nor was covered by class examples, so you have to read tedious textbook for answers. You will take roughly 8 hours per homework to finish them. The exams are tricky and he is ALWAYS AMBIGUOUS about what is covered for each exam (Quote: "covers everything"). This is especially terrible when the homework and the lectures are NOT the same thing AT ALL!!! He WILL attempt to trick you with something never taught in class.

Winter 2020 - If you have to take this class for credit/grade, then you have to. If you want to learn the material, take another professor. Very confusing lectures that more than half the class stopped attending after the midterm. He gives hints for the midterm and final in his lectures, though, so you have to attend if you want a good grade. A nice person. Not an engaging or inspiring professor. After taking this class, I became disinterested in further study of heat transfer. Before taking this class, I was very interested in it.

Winter 2022 - This is one of the more difficult engineering classes I have taken so far, but thankfully the professor is always willing to help and truly goes the extra mile. He set aside a fifteen minute block for every student to meet with him towards the end of the course for questions and feedback, which is a lot of time if you add up all the students. The only issues I really had was that the class was mostly asynchronous this quarter, but the professor did the best he could in the situation. Would definitely recommend!

Professor Ju does an excellent job of teaching his material. He made the entire course lecture into a pdf file for you to follow. While the material of 105D may not come as easily as material of other courses, he really does cover all the material in a very concise and organized manner. He really believes in thinking as opposed to plugging and chugging, and thus is a fan of derivations in his tests. The problems he gives are good. i.e. slightly challenging, but very "core". In lecture, sitting in your seat, he seems like the nicest guy. When you ask him a question, however, he cam make you feel pretty stupid, and kind of don't feel like asking him any further questions. But thicken your skin, and ask what you need to know. He makes himself very available, despite all that, and will answer your question thoroughly, provided he deems it not too basic and something you should have learned from other classes. Overall, great professor. You learn a ton from his lectures, he puts a lot of effort into organizing his lectures, and they are effective. His education philosophy is good, and you come out learning something worthwhile.

first of all, she is the nicest person there is. whenever you go to her office she will make you feel welcome and answer all your questions. her lectures are very good. she explains everything very well, she derives every equation and her notes are very organized. she even posted them on courseweb when I took the class. downside is her test are trixy and hard. not too hard but it's not stuff taken out of homework with numbers changed like some other teachers *cough*chatterjee*cough*. she is generous when grading too. I got an A and I am pretty dumb but i guess there are dumber people that go to this school so I WIN.

Professor Marner is the best professor that MAE has to offer. No question about it. He has a fantastic lecture style, a high level of organization and straight forwardness, and he involves the students in his lectures through his charismatic personality and humor. Don't graduate from UCLA MAE without taking this guy at least once. That being said, students considering taking his class should be aware that a high workload will be the norm. I also took him for MAE 133A, were there is a project which takes up a lot of time. During this time in the course the homework piled up sometimes even up to two homework assignments per week in addition to an approaching project deadline. Students should also not expect to pick their own groups; Marner wishes to make the class like industry so the TA's pick the groups according to a skills questionnaire. Great professor, great man...take his class at least once.

I loved Pilon! He's a good professor and even tries to learn everyone's names. Don't be late for class or he'll call you out on it. His tests are actually pretty easy...half conceptual and half analytical. When you solve problems, don't make stupid mistakes cause they're pretty stingy on the partial credit. On the midterm, one of the problems asked you to compare two different values. I solved for the two different numbers (correctly) but since I didn't find the ratio I got 7 points marked down. Kinda unfair in my opinion. Just make sure you read the questions carefully! You kinda have to go to every lecture. He'll notice.
