MUS HIS 60: American Musicals This professor is good. If you have an interest in musical theater and is interested in analyzing it in a light manner, you will enjoy this class. His analysis of the musicals is eye-opening and effective and interesting. There is a good variety of musicals introduced in the class, including classics like Oklahoma! and also stuff like The Rocky Horror Picture Show. He is very fair and concerned enough, including everything you need to know for his test in his study guides. Seriously, I did not read his books but paid attention during lecture and studied the study guide was able to ace all of his tests. So basically, just attend lecture and pay half an attention and dedicate like 4 hrs before each test studying the study guide and you will get a good grade and have a good time.

MUSIC HISTORY 61 not 60:MUSIC HISTORY OF LA Definitely take this class if you are looking for an interesting and EASY GE. She is a really nice professor that cares a lot about her students and always asks her students how they are feeling. Even though I did not talk a lot in the class I would encourage anyone taking it to talk because she really likes to hear her students input. She gives a study guide right before the midterm and final so thats all you have to study to get an A on the midterm and final. As for the two essays see your TA for help and you will probably get an B+ or A. Get LAUREL!! She is amazing! Hope that helps. Goodluck!

Spring 2016 - I can't believe this teacher is leaving. I had this class as a 9 AM, and I willingly got up each Monday and Wednesday to attend because I loved his lectures so much. I learned so much about musicals this quarter, and it was super fun! Great GE, but probably only because of this teacher. Side note: I was in his lecture during the shooting, and he was super professional the entire time making sure the students were safe. He even shortened the length of the final because of the stress this event had on the student body, as it occurred a week before finals. He genuinely cares about his students, more than any other professor I've had at UCLA. I'm going to miss him a lot.

Spring 2019 - Initially, I was turned off from taking this class because Professor Repologle-Wong had an overall 2.7 rating on BruinWalk (I really don't know how), but after looking at the grade distributions for her other classes and my love of musicals, I decided it was worth the risk. It was such a good idea!! I do not know if this is going to be one of my favorite classes at UCLA, but it is definitely up there. I personally love how unique and different the experience is as I am a STEM major, so normally would not take any class of this sort. Professor Repologle-Wong really knows her material though and occasionally will even bust out some notes on the piano like it is no big deal. The format of the class is one midterm that has some short answer and then one essay. She provided us with all the prompts beforehand though, so if you had at least kind of prepared, it was very doable. Then there was just a final paper and a take-home final exam that was due end of week 10 and finals week, respectively. That was about the only time that I did a ton of work in the class though. There are weekly reflections that are due on CCLE, but they did not have to be long and I found them a nice break from tedious math problems. A lot of people stopped showing up to lecture after awhile, but I found the content interesting and kept going. The Professor is not scared of bringing up criticism of some of the most popular and well-loved musicals, and I really found my eyes being opened as I approached music and its plot in ways that I had never previously considered. Where else would I have learned that Hamilton is problematic due to its erasure of African American history? Overall, I highly recommend this class if you are a musical fan or want an easy GE!
