--Music History 5: History of Rock n' Roll-- I don't understand why people are complaining. Its the perfect GE to take, especially if you are a non-music major. To get a good grade all you have to do is put in some effort. It does require some reading, but if you want to skip that just go to her office hours. Ask her any question on the quiz and she'll give you the answer. She is a great professor and cares about what she teaches. Her accent is heavy but understandable. All the TA's are great except Alexandra, stay away from her section. This is the PERFECT GE course. Take it for a breezy quarter!

EDM: THe class is not that easy as you think. Midterms and final are very detail specific. However, the projects are incredibly easy so that will compensate for midterms and final. I liked this class, i thought it was a fun GE. I got a B+ but i seriously thought i did worse and i don't think its true how other reviewers say that fink only gives c's and d's. If I got a B+, then surely there were tons of people who got A's and B's

Course taken: Music History 12W Le Guin is an amazing person but classes were extremely dry. Discussions were usually forced because there was never much to say about any of the topics presented in class. Those who did speak up in class repeated the same ideas over and over again. There is a lot of assignments in this class that seem really unnecessary but you have to turn everything if you want a decent grade because the point scale is very strict. The music analyses were very enjoyable and I am very grateful that Le Guin spent A LOT of time with us on our thesis and rest of the paper. It wasn't rushed at all and I knew what was expected of me for the paper. That being said, make sure you pick a good topic since so much time is spent on it.. I took this class as a first year to see if I wanted to be a Music History major and I still am unsure but the class satisfies the writing 2 requirement so at least it's something. Ended up with an A in the class, I turned in EVERY assignment and attended every lecture and discussion.

I took Music History 78 (the Beatles) with Levitz and thought it was pretty easy. The only thing you absolutely have to do is attend lecture and take excellent notes. She does post the lecture slides but she intentionally does not include useful information on them so you have to come to class. The readings are long and somewhat interesting, but you do not have to read them fully. She gives you a study guide for the midterm and final, and if you know all the information on that then you can easily ace them both. Just take some notes on the readings from her study guide and you'll be fine. There are also two papers due which are pretty easy. Overall fun class in which you can easily get an A and learn a lot of great info about the Beatles!

I took M137 LGBT Pop with Morris and he was a nice guy. Lectures were really hard to follow and generally really disorganized, but try to take notes and pay attention. The TAs give out a study guide before the tests, thankfully, so just go off of that and you'll be okay. It's a lot of work, a lot of reading, and a few writing assignments. I had gotten high As on all my assignments, but an A- in the class. Either I didn't do that well on the final or GE curves just kill you, I guess.

Course taken: Music 68. If you're wondering if you should take the Beatles class, TAKE IT. You really learn a whole lot from Upton's class and classes are usually really enjoyable! Readings are not really necessary as long as you attend lecture and discussion. Upton's teaching style is a little erratic at times, she tried to teach us a little music theory stuff which we were never tested on. She went off topic a little on LSD and Yoko Ono but besides the class was a real treat. Grading depends a lot on your TA, Thompson is great. I heard of some TA's that knocked off points from the midterm/final for silly things such as mispelling names/places/etc. If you love the Beatles, you'll love this class. If you don't love the Beatles already, you will when you take this class.
