Environmental Policy of Soviet Union and Modern-Day Implications

Description: Seminar, one hour. Examination of former republics of Soviet Union through lens of Soviet environmental policy. Focus on some of greatest environmental disasters that occurred during Soviet Union and their present-day impacts on modern countries in which they occurred, from Baltic Sea to Kazakh steppe, and from Siberian tundra to southern deserts of Central Asia. Analysis of some of most pressing issues concerning environment, ranging from nuclear fallout to indigenous rights. P/NP grading. Facilitated by Rowan Baker, with Daniel Posner as faculty mentor.
