Winter 2018 - Professor Covington is very knowledgeable on the topic. I personally found the topics pretty interesting. The class was a hybrid class, meaning that we went to lecture one time a week and then had to watch video lectures (usually around half an hour) throughout the week. The weekly readings for the class took a while to complete. There were weekly assignments and responses that you needed to complete and post online. The midterm and final were also online, and were a mix of free response and multiple choice. There were several writing assignments that also accounted for a lot of your grade including a public policy paper, an op ed, and a cost-benefit analysis (CBA). The CBA was graded pretty harshly, but the op ed and public policy paper were graded more generously.

Sabl is an incredibly knowledeable and interesting man who has been cursed with a horribly boring voice and an odd sense of humor that only those at his level of nerdiness find interesting. I took PS10 with him, and fell asleep in several lectures, but the few times I managed to stay awake and pay attention, I realized he knew what he was speaking of and found what he said actually really helpful in understanding the readings. He assigns a lot of them (a total of five books for PS10), but because the tests are multiple-essays with several questions to chose from, you can get away with doing close readings on only a few of them and skimming through the rest. My suggestion for anyone taking his class: know at least what readings are being discussed for the week, and take an energy drink with you to lecture.

Truly an engaging professor, Stoll made every lecture worthwhile. Even if you did not go to his office hours, in every lecture you were made to feel highly encouraged to learn. He always provides loads of examples so it becomes easy to understand the concepts.Simply, an amazing person overall!
