Fall 2018 - Ok so I'm a South campus major and I very much regret taking this class. Her lectures were very boring and the iClicker questions weren't frequent enough so if you forgot your iClicker one day well there goes your grade. The amount of preparation required for the tests is uncalled for. The final study guide ended up being 18 pages for me and I had to have it memorized more or less word for word. Don't get me wrong, I think Professor Jacobs is a kind individual, but she doesn't define what she's going to be looking for on the tests in a clear enough way. The tests are mc and short answer but at least half of the mc had a none of the above option on them. The short answer questions are graded harshly, and she requires you know material from the course reader that she doesn't put in her slides. Overall, I really ended up not liking this class.

Spring 2019 - I didn't do great on the midterm or the one page discussion essays. I thought I could kind of just wing it, but that didn't work out. I studied more for the final and ended up getting an A- when I for sure thought I would get a B. DO the readings and take note of little details, also go to Jepson's office hours! No one really goes and he answered questions about the final for me that really helped.

Lupher is a terrible professor. His lectures are pretty straight forward, but he likes to "digress" a lot.He sucks to approach, he doesn't want to help his students. he says that all questions are welcome, but then when students ask questions about certain things his response is "not going to repeat that was in the lecture" For a final review, he told us barely anything. He tells us what the format is and doesn't go into specifics. I HIGHLY recommend that you do not take it with this guy.

I really enjoyed the beginning of this class but by the end of the quarter, I couldn't wait for it be over. The exploriments started out slow but then we had to do bunch at the very end. They also got a bit tedious. Although I think Prof McGrane has a lot of interesting ideas and approaches the study of sociology in a very meaningful and practical way, his manner is a bit pedantic and overly-theatrical to the point that I felt a bit like he was talking down to me. I am a returning senior and the majority of the class were sophomores so perhaps he was trying to address a younger college group. The (many) videos were worth watching but there were also a lot of books. They were all good books but the amount of reading was overwhelming. For a G.E. requirement (which it was for me), the amount of reading (8 books), exploriments/write-ups (7?), 2 midterm take-home essays, and final take-home essay, was very challenging and a bit frustrating because it kept me from focusing on my class in my major. If you are a Sociology student, however, you may find that this class is very worth your while.

I took Sociology 40, it just wasn't listed in the course selection. It focused on American Psychosocial racism and I must say the class changed my perspective about racism. Professor Prager did his best to teach the class and provided interesting topics about things happening in current time. His lectures however were incredibly unorganized. I felt like every lecture we started over as if it was the first day of class. I ended up missing class the last 2 weeks of the quarter since he would put them on Bruincast and there was no point if what he was saying wasn't really useful to the class or final. My TA was probably what helped me pass the class. They gave weekly 2 page writing assignments about articles and videos discussed in the class. The midterm and final focused on the major readings of the class. My TA gave us a study guide and it helped make the midterm and final very easy. I got an A in the class, just as I'm sure mostly everybody did. This is a very easy GE and as long as you pay some attention, you should pass with an A too. Also, the course reader was free online.
