I took Soc 130 and M174 with Professor Anderson, and found both courses to be interesting, thought-provoking, and well worth my time. Professor Anderson is an extremely interesting lecturer, and really wants to make sure her students are "getting it". She doesn't believe in tests because then we're just studying to pass a test rather than thinking critically and reflecting, which is why she only assigns papers. While there is a lot of reading, it's usually pretty interesting, and you don't need to read everything throughly. Her classes allow for a lot of student input and discussion, and she knows many of the students by name. In all honesty, if you put in the work for the class, which is not painful, your grade will reflect that. In short, Anderson is by far one of the best professors I've had at UCLA, take her if you get a chance!

This was by FAR the worst class at UCLA I have ever taken. And it wasn't just the class, it was the teacher! Berend must be avoided at all cost! Her accent is so difficult to listen to, shes babbles on about things that have no relevance to the content of the tests, her tests are so backwards its impossible to study for! The worst!!!

Professor Seltzer gives THE HARDEST tests I have taken at UCLA. They are not hard because the material is hard or boring (the material is VERY interesting). The tests are hard because the professor wants EXACT answers. Like, she will ask specific percentages or something that she points to in the lecture that she you would not think you needed to know. Do not let her sweet character fool you. Those tests are NO JOKE. She and the TA both grade the tests and papers, so uhh yea.. she WILL have a lot to say about grading. The TA was not really a big help when it comes to going over what the professor wants. Like the TA went over major themes in the readings (which are on the tests to some degree) but the specific demographics that Professor asks for, hard to get from the TA. Just remember, her tests are very detailed. If you really are good at remembering things, I would take the class. I am thinking I will get a B out of the class. No EASY A for sure tho. The break down of the class was: Clicker participation and section: 10% Reaction Papers: 15% Midterm: 25% 5-6 Page Paper: 20% Final: 30% (Or something like that) Goodluck.
