Examination of current urban planning and policy issues and debates, such as normative theories of good urban form, metropolitan organization and governance, economic development and growth management, edge cities, spatial mismatch hypothesis, urban poverty, racial/ethnic inequality, gender and urban structure, sustainability, and future of cities. Spring 2019 - professor sarmiento is a pretty soft spoken guy but he makes a great professor and invited some interesting guest speakers. I definitely learned a lot, especially about housing and transportation policy in the US. there were no surprises on the exams, and there was one paper on a planning policy issue of your choice.
