In the post below, its really interesting that you talked about my TA. Theri is tough and she's not afraid to call you on your *ish. Hell, you shouldn't have been doodling next to the TA. If you wanted to do that, you should have sat elsewhere! And, technically, she's right. She knows more about education than you do obviously. I was in her section and she's cool. She explains things carefully, thinks about other people's opinions and answers them honestly, and makes hilarious jokes. She's also really knowledgeable about many other cultures and makes a bunch of people feel included. I was a little intimidated by that smirk she wears, but it really just means she's interested in what you're saying and kind of thinking the same thing. She's a little old school (I'm the teacher, you're the student). I could handle that especially because if you respect her, you're cool. She's human... LOL.. (ie Dear person who was doodling... um, you messed up) Anyhoo, Mufti was cool as a lecturer, but I've seen people call the prof complicated if he gives too many points and it IS a lower div after all. I liked the reading and it was fun to learn from him. He's cool at office hours, but a little aloof.

This class requires you to read some very interesting literature. Whatever your opinion on the professor, you have the oppertunity to read something atypical that's actually rewarding and interesting. The discussion section I had (with my TA Posner) was one of the most engaging and interesting English sections I've had here at UCLA. Professor Mufti is an intelligent man, though honestly, while his points are interesting, he repeats them about seven times and after the third time you're drowsy. However, I enjoyed this class, and it wasn't obnoxiously challenging. The papers are hard to tackle if you're not good with essays but that's to be expected with any CompLit class.

Spring 2018 - Mufti for Com Lit 2DW was chill, for the first half of the quarter we were reading and analyzing articles in class and section. Our class focused on world literature about displacement, immigration and refugees. The second half of the quarter we were assigned books to read about every two weeks, analyzing and close reading some parts in section. Our midterm and final had the same form and was pretty short and basic in which there were ID's of key words from the articles to relate to class topics as a whole, as well as short close readings to write and a little larger essay to write on the books. This class is very low maintenance, Mufti and our TA's assured us that we only needed to go over our notes and make sure we were "doing the readings" to get ready for exams. I personally didn't read the books, even though there weren't sparknotes for the books we read online lectures and TA discussions were enough for me to do well on the exams. The TA's are also pretty chill and cool people! A smaller, relaxing class that most people skipped going to the whole quarter and I assume still passed the class with a decent grade.
