Panofsky is an incredible professor who clearly cares about student learning and engagement. He wants to educate the next generation of woke health professionals. I went into his office hours a few times to discuss the class and his personal research. He is very easy to talk to and was oftentimes very funny. He and Keel both teach 105B together. 105B is a very special class. I highly encourage any individual who is reading this and is planning to take the class to be fully engaged during the class. You will get SO MUCH out of the course by doing that. The workload is fine. The three papers serve a purpose and are great ways to summarize the course when you want to reflect on it. I took this class as a senior and I can say that it was for sure one of the best courses of my college career.

Panofsky is pretty cool! He taught this class with Lynch-Alfaro and they work really well together as a team. The class consists of ccle quizzes, discussion participation, 3 papers, and a final exam (MC). Sometimes lecture can feel somewhat long but overall the material is interesting and I definitely learned a lot about society/race/genetics and how they intertwine.

Dr Panofsky is absolutely amazing! His lectures are super engaging and full of interesting arguments. He made me think differently about topics that I never thought I would like. Definitely my favourite professor out of the cluster professors!

Professor Panofsky loves corny jokes and going overtime. If that's something you can't bear with, too bad cuz you're stuck with him anyway if you're taking the cluster. Wouldn't say I disliked him, I really does try his best to engage the class in a discussion and present the information clearly. However, he often goes a bit off topic or tries to fit too much information in too little time left. So you'll often see him in the beginning of the next lecture (with a different professor) trying to finish up his presentation from the previous lecture in "just 5 minutes" and actually taking 20-30 minutes from the other professor's time which I personally found a bit disrespectful. Despite all that, Professor Panofsky presents information well and accordingly to his learning outcomes, which helps during midterm/final revision. Overall I'd probably rate him 3.9/5...

Dr. Panofsky, in my opinion, is the best professors of this class (or as good as Rensel). Although he gives heavy readings, he posts his slides with them and the slides are so clear that you don't even need to look at the readings. Also, his lectures are super clear that if you take good note you get everything you need to know even if you didn't do any preparations. Really hope he could replace Dr. Lee in the 2nd quarter whose lectures are really confusing.

Dr. Panofsky is responsible for the social/political aspect of the course while Dr. Rensel handles the biological aspect. To me, Dr. Panofsky is just as favorable as Dr. Rensel. Makes clear slides, a great lecturer, and a funny guy. The class itself is not bad either. 25% final, 20% midterm, 10% weekly quizzes, 20% participation (basically free points), and 25% GMO games (it's similar to MUN). A clicker is required btw. The class is sort of reading-intensive, yet as long as you pay attention during lectures and revisit them before exams, you should be fine. Would recommend.

I thought that Professor Panofsky was extremely helpful. If you had a question about something discussed in lecture, he was willing to take time after class and explain it to you. That is something most professors wouldn’t do. He was also engaging in his lectures and his test questions were fair. Sometimes his lectures could be a bit confusing, but he was able to clarify in review sessions. His personality was also great, something that helped keep the course interesting.

All you have to do for this class is do an internship, record your hours, do weekly reflections, attend brief one-on-one meetings every 2 weeks, and write a paper (6-8 pages for your midterm due around week 6 and 8-10 pages for your final due at the end of week 10). Very flexible and chill class, but the reflections often felt like busy work.

God this professor was such garbage! His essay prompts were a mindfuck, his tests a scorch of hell, and overall a bitch of a class. Too bad there is no other choices.

Professor Aaron Panofsky is one of the most kind, thoughtful and open-minded professors I've encountered so far in my experience here in UCLA. Although I did find some of his topics in regards to this class (DIY biology / GMO) abit more dense and confusing, Prof Panofsky teaches them in a way that makes it very comprehensible. As long as you pay attention in class and rewatch lectures before your midterms, you should be good to go. And if you do want to go deeper into a certain topic, his office hours are great + he is very willing to clarify questions there too :)
