33A: The only reason I know anything about linear algebra is because of the MIT online lectures. His lectures were really hard to follow and unless you're willing to do a lot of extra work on your own, I wouldn't recommend taking his class. Also, the homework doesn't help at all and the final we had was just TONS of BS. tl;dr don't take his class

Class: Math 33A I thought he was kinda frustrating because what he taught in class didn't help with the homework, and the homework only kinda represented the material on the tests. As an athlete with a tutor I thought it was pretty doable; I got an A- in the class and never really knew what was going on in lecture. Guess that goes to show how big a difference a better teacher can make.

For some reason Math 33A didn't show up as a course on the dropdown menu but I took Linear Algebra with this professor and he is the worst I've had after Chayes. I completely understood all of the material that was taught and tested, but one small arithmetic mistake in a matrix cost me 9% of my total midterm grade, which my TA eventually bumped up 4%. He isn't necessarily bad at teaching the material, but his grading is horrible and unfair. AVOID THIS PROFESSOR AT ALL COSTS. DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE THE REVIEWS, HE REALLY IS THAT BAD.

For some reason, I was not able to scroll down and select anything other than Electrical Engineering, but I took 33 A. I would recommend anyone other than Professor Laub. Toward the beginning of the course, when I questioned my friends from the other lecture why on earth they would choose a class at 8, they said because Laub is an asshole. They described him for me. He teaches the material with the incorrect assumption that all have seen and already understand the material. When asking for clarification on concepts, students were ridiculed. And for those that reviewed him as being "nice," they are misreading his passive aggressiveness as an inviting smile which he wears across his face as he tells you how stupid you are. Don't take Laub.

I took Math 33A with Professor Laub. Professor Laub has a very unique way of teaching where he tries to train his students into a certain perspective when looking at linear algebra. If you pay attention to what he's saying in class, instead of skipping class or taking down notes without understanding it, you will be able to appreciate his methods. His exams are a breeze (almost exactly the same as the practice ones) so if you prepared for it there shouldn't be a problem.
