This class is awesome. I have learned so much stuff about the human brain that is actually applicable to my life. The lectures are kind of long and tedious, but not really vital to the tests, I just find them interesting. Discussion attendance matters but they usually end early and are pretty quick paced. Perfect workload, 10/10 class.
Loved this class, would take again. One of the most interesting/helpful classes I have taken at UCLA!
Great GE to take to fulfill science requirements, especially for someone like me who doesn't enjoy science and math. Lectures are clear and straightforward and Professor Korb is passionate about what he is teaching. This class really helped me to understand MENTAL HEALTH which has been huge in my college career so far.
- One of the most practical, useful classes at UCLA
- Straightforward multiple choice midterm and final
- Weekly log assignments can sometimes be a pain
- Textbooks are easy to read (more like self-help books) and have helped me to change the way I deal with my own mental health
Textbooks are not necessary to do well in the class, but I would read them because they give great life tips and advice.
This is one of my favorite G.Es here at UCLA. The material you learn really helps you understand mental health and Dr. Korb teaches you skills you can apply to your very life!!! His exams are harder than he makes it out to be though. He says his exams are very straight forward, however, I would have to disagree. You definitely need to study his lecture slides closely and make sure you understand the neuroscience (like what neurotransmitter/region of the brain does what). Thinking that the exam would be easy, I didn't study too hard for the first midterm and I got a C+. However, this class is very fair and the exam is only worth 20% of your grade. Everything else like participation, final paper, and final exam are weighted into your grade so bombing one exam doesn't mean you can't get an A. I studied much harder on the final (and did well) , participated a lot and did well on final paper so I ended up with an A. Overall, this is a GREAT class and I would highly recommend this class to everyone! It can truly make a difference in your life if you take it seriously enough. Btw, he assigns his own book as the textbook for the class. He only makes you read a portion of it, but the book is so good that I read it all! It is also cheap too (about $12). TAKE THIS CLASS!!! You won't regret it!
