Professor Fluitt is a wonderful teacher. Even though the class can be very open-ended and at times difficult, she is always willing to guide you through your thought process and thoroughly answer any questions. Lectures always took interesting turns, and the focus was always on discovery and building connections with other classes or lectures rather than plowing through material. All in all, she led a very collaborative learning environment. I gained a deep appreciation for the research process through this class. She gives multiple avenues for participation which shouldn't be too hard if you engage in and/or out of the class (which you should to make the most out of the class!). psst: She also cute pet cats if you go to office hours!

I really loved this class. It was hard at times, but you can tell she puts a lot of work into her lectures to make everything as understandable as possible. There's 6 assignments total; 2 are really small, just reflecting on a presentation you just saw, but 4 require a pretty in-depth understanding of the research and everything she talks about in lecture (nothing you can just google). She's really helpful, and in my experience always has really good answers for the questions you ask.

This was one of my favorite classes. Professor Fluitt is honestly so nice and caring and on top of that, so passionate about teaching and the learning process. She was always very helpful and never made you feel dumb for not knowing something. If you're trying, she sees it and is always thorough with explaining where things went wrong. What I also liked was how approachable she is. She makes you feel comfortable to clarify anything. Also, she knows what she is doing. I learned a lot from this class and Professor Fluitt made it very enjoyable for me. This was the perfect course for prepping for the minor.

This class is great if you want to learn how research works. You go extremely in-depth into two research projects that professors here are currently working on and it's quite amazing. Even if you don't get into the minor (like myself) it's good experience trying to understand research topics.

Every single assignment in this class you're allowed to work with classmates so it's not that hard to do well. Just don't slack off in lecture because the questions on problem sets/exams will get specific and you really need to know your stuff.

Fluitt herself is great and she seems extremely smart and welcoming and helpful :)

This class is super chill! The subjects covered in this class change every quarter, but this quarter we got to learn about hot-off-the-press research on CAR T cell therapy and stem cell diabetes treatment. Super interesting stuff if you're into biomedical research! Dr. Fluitt is a fun lecturer and she has really cute cats. Don't worry about exams. Homework is very easy as long as you were paying attention in class.

Mixed feelings about this class/professor. Fluitt was an extremely fast lecturer and it was very hard for me to follow since I didn't have much background in this field of molecular biology. I found myself relistening/rewatching every lecture but this was made extremely difficult by UCLA having changed their system from Bruincast to podcasts on CCLE that barely worked where I lived. The system was very faulty/unreliable and this made rewatching/listening to lectures even harder. I blame UCLA in this department. However, even after watching I found myself behind others on the content. Some people were just better at listening and absorbing in class but there was so much new content that I found myself trying to understand one topic and then becoming lost the rest of the lecture because I missed what she said after. If you're anything like me, I would suggest you not to take it with Fluitt. Discussion was helpful because the TAs/LAs were always lending a hand if you needed it with the worksheets. I found myself coming out of the exams feeling like I did alright but when I saw my scores, I was disappointed. The class average on exams were abotu 83-85% which is pretty high.

Dr. Fluitt is an engaging lecturer who really enjoys and understands LS3 material. I did not know what to expect from her class at first because apparently she was a new professor, but I was pleasantly surprised.
Launchpad is required for class because the weekly homework and readings are assigned through it. Sometimes the readings are long and full of detail, but overall the online assignments provide a nice buffer of points for your grade.
iClickers are also required for participation points. Dr. Fluitt makes good use of these by incorporating relevant questions in her lecture. I highly recommend giving your greatest effort in answering these questions because they are excellent practice for the exams.
Her exams are extremely fair and require paying close attention to lecture. Midterm II is arguably being the most difficult, so be sure to attend office hours and clear any misconceptions.
Overall, I enjoyed taking LS3 with Dr. Fluitt. She was extremely personable and friendly during lecture and office hours. She really cares about her students enjoying the class and doing a good job. Definitely not the scariest class in the LS series (that accolade would go to LS4).

Professor Fluiit is a nice lady, but I really did not like this class. The lectures were rushed and she talked way too fast to take in any information. Also, the slides and the organizations of the lectures were all over the place. Whenever we go onto a new section, she would just throw out terms that we are expected to know. Also, the tests were unfair. Midterm two was not supposed to cumulative, but she included things from the previous section. Also, the tests were extremely unclear and she always said she was not trying to trick us, but since the questions were so vague they were also tricky. Do not test us on things you did not even talk about. That just takes away from the point of this class. I'm surprised that she had a 3.5 rating on bruinwalk, shes hould have a 2.

LS3 has been rumored to be super difficult, but with Fluitt I think it was pretty manageable. That's not to say that the class is easy whatsoever but Fluitt knows her stuff really well and is good at communicating. Definitely a class that you can't zone out in for a second otherwise you'll miss a bunch, so it's good that it is BruinCasted. Would definitely recommend doing a Peer learning session because it helped me keep on top of the large volumes of material and actually understand what was happening.

Fluitt is by far the best life science teacher I've had at UCLA. She's really funny and engaging in lecture and makes it really easy for you to get points in the class - clicker questions, easy online homework points, an extra credit homework quiz at the end, and discussion is just attendance graded and typically lets out early. The first midterm had an average of about 85 and the second was just a little lower than that. Each test is NOT cumulative, not even the final. Even though she gives a lot of easy points I feel like I've really learned the material in this class; she doesn't force rote memorization on her students like a lot of life science professors tend to. If you can take a class with her you really should! Your GPA will thank you and you'll actually really enjoy the course!
