How the hell UCLA hired this woman. I can walk into an elementary school, ask a random teacher (assuming they have a teaching credential and know calculus) to teach me calculus and I would learn from them more than Andreia. Don't believe me, I'll now give you a thoroughly review of the worst professor/teacher I've came across in my life. First of all, lectures are not helpful. She just does exactly what the book does so there's absolutely no need to go to lectures at all. She goes over proofs rather than examples and thinks that she's Albert Einstein or something and says "I disagree with the book" like bruh, the book was collectively written by 3 people, who have been teaching before she was born and she's saying that they're wrong, yeah I don't think so. She will make you do the problem her way and discredit everything else. Also, her grading scheme is very iffy. They're either midterm of final heavy, depending on which one you did better and there're about 10 hw assignments that're 6 questions each, worth 2 points per question. If you flip a sign, you get half credit on that question. Miss one step, half credit. Miss one number, half credit. That's the worst grading scheme I've ever seen like holy sh*t we're not Jesus and we can't be perfect like you Andreia. Test. I've seen a lot of people complaining about the test and I see why. They require a lot of critical thinking so it's usually difficult for the majority of the students. I luckily took BC Calc in high school and know most of what we're learning so I did good on the test. However, if you don't think you're exceptionally good at math or a birth genius, get tf away from this class. I took this thinking it'll be a breeze but i'm putting in more work than I thought I have to. I honestly hope the best for future generations in this class. May the Math Gods be with you.

Please avoid this woman. Her homework is graded extremely strictly and her midterms are full of crap. The questions are designed to purposefully confuse you and stray from actually testing useful material. I learned that there is only one way to solve a problem in calculus- if you don't solve it the way she wants, you get screwed over. This class completely rejects the creativity in solving math problems and limits the knowledge calculus can actually offer. I truly learned more from my calculus teacher in high school than this joke of prof. that doesn't know how to teach.

Professor Chapouto was super organized and helpful. I felt like she thoroughly explained most concepts.
At first, I felt like this class was a bit difficult because her notations were complex and the first midterm was tough. However, I think she was really great at receiving feedback from us and she adjusted the class to make it more clear. Honestly, I would definitely take another class with this professor she is super cool and extremely knowledgeable. There are also two grading schemes for the class and she drops the lowest 2 homework grades which is nice.

Avoid this class at all cost! It will break your GPA! Terrible teaching/lecturing. You will be sitting looking at your test for the hour you start to the alarm not knowing anything on it! Save yourself a headache and avoid this class at all cost.

A lot of the reviews for this class are bad but Prof. Chapouto is very understanding and really cares about her students. There is one homework assignment every week and it is graded on accuracy. She very much wants her students to succeed. Despite the first midterm being pretty tough, she adjusted the test (by getting rid of a question that a lot of people missed) helping a lot of people's grades. Not only that, she also gave us an amazing opportunity for extra credit (the assignment had the potential to bump our grades up 7%). The second midterm was very fair and even had a bonus question in case we missed anything else on the exam. She is extremely approachable and will work with you. The class does cover pretty difficult concepts but Prof. Chapouto makes the class manageable. I would take a class with her again should I get the chance.

Just don’t take this class. She is not a good teacher. She is a phD student who expects you to know as much as she does. 0/10 would not recommend :)

While this class was pretty difficult at first, Professor Chapouto definitely worked with the students to help us do better in her class. The first midterm was really difficult but she ended up dropping a section that most people did poorly on. I recommend that you take the bad reviews with a grain of salt because they may have been posted right after the first midterm and before she curved it. As for the second midterm, it was a lot easier and she added a bonus question. The exams are mostly what make your grade though (homework was 14.5% of your grade), so if you don't perform well on tests I would recommend looking elsewhere. The final was a bit more difficult than the second midterm but still reasonable. Practice exams were given for the 2nd midterm and final and she hosted review sessions. She does grade pretty harshly on homework but it isn't too bad. She also gave us an extra credit opportunity that could have earned us up to 7% extra on our final grade, which was really nice. I definitely recommend Professor Chapouto as she definitely cares about her students and I feel like I learned a lot in her course, this was her first year teaching and she certainly gave us opportunities to learn and achieve a good grade in this course.

edit: just wanted to mention that she highly stresses doing extra practice problems from the textbook as a way of studying for the tests. I certainly agree with this, and sometimes it was better to just do the odd numbered problems and check in the back of the book because her work could be a bit confusing to me. I would be cautious about taking her class if you aren't very confident in math/haven't already taken calculus.
