Prof. Lunde is the man. His class is really cool. It's sort of a lecture and discussion thrown in one. He really cares about his students and is a funny and great teacher. He's really easy to connect and communicate with and is just a great person.
The class is decent regarding its workload. You have to do readings before every class which you'll discuss (advisable to participate, not much, but throw in a comment or two every lecture and discussion). The readings are short and easyyy and you can pretty much say anything and he will take your point courteously and acknowledge that you participated. You have to write three essays, and three 2-page short essays. The short essays are really easy and you're guaranteed the full credit as long as you put some thought into it. The regular essays depend on your TA as they're graded by them...but overall the topics are diverse and abundant.
There's a couple extra credit opportunities which can boost your grade.
I took this class as a GE and a Writing II class and I highly recommend it. Prof. Lunde is great and the class is pretty easy.
What can I say, Arne Lunde is the best. Being a graduating senior, I had all but lost hope in this school's ability to hire human professors that aren't completely absorbed in themselves or their research 99% of the time and don't give a **** about who you are.
Lunde is so different. He actually learns and addresses you by name!!!! His lectures are wonderful, his sense of humor is great, and his overall quality as a professor is outstanding. This is what college should be about. I only wish my other professors were like Lunde. Leaving UCLA disappointed in my education, but I appreciate the one bright spot by taking a few of Lunde's classes.

The whole grade is 3 essay drafts which count for around 25% of the grade and 3 essay revisions which are 55% of the grade. As long as you listen to your TA on their draft advice, you will get an A on the final draft. The rest of the class grade is participation, which is basically just attendance and signing in to lecture. The reading is light and engaging.
It's funny because I did not know how to rate his helpfulness because I rarely needed help in the course (except after a death in my family, which he was extremely supportive about). It was so organized. He made everything clear and really is one of the most pleasant people I have ever met. He is just a delight, he is knowledgeable and very funny. We had a midterm and a final. They both consisted of people identification (from a list of relevant people, we had to write down their occupation, 2-3 films they were associated with, and 2 biographical facts), film identification (by dialogue for the midterm, and then by image for the final), and then an essay. I am super anxious about exams but these went well for me. As long as you pay attention to the material, it will be an easy experience.
I learned so much about Ingmar Bergman and Swedish film in general, and I want to keep the slides and my notes forever because he made it all so interesting. I would love to take another course with Lunde. I'd also just love to be Lunde's friend because like I said he's just a delight. Definitely recommend anything he teaches.
This was a very easy and interesting class. If you are good at memorization then this class will be very easy for you! He gives a study guide before the midterm and final that is exactly the same as the real exam. You technically only have to put in 4-5 days memorizing throughout the whole quarter to get an A+ in the class.
Great class! Assignments are 3 essays, first one 4-5 pages, 2nd 5-6. pages, last one 6-7 pages. No midterm, no final! mostly your TA makes or breaks your grade. I think I had the best TA known to made, thank you so much Andrea! Highly recommend this class, readings are great and engaging.
If you have not taken Professor Lunde yet you are missing out. He is not only immensely passionate about the subject but he cares about his students so much. I have become a Scandinavian minor because of him and I highly recommend it.
Any Scand. class that I enroll in is taught by him. He is the best!

This class was okay. There were so many long readings but the exams weren’t too bad. Professor Lunde is very understanding regarding personal situations and is a very sweet person. He’s also very funny!
