Fall 2020 - Prof Normore is very knowledgable and it was great hearing him lecture on certain topics and hearing other guest speakers he brought in. With that said, he is also very disorganized and you have to communicate back and forth with the TA's for a lot of things. The TA's also grade basically everything so it really all depends on how lenient they are. This was definitely a challenge and idk if I'd recommend it for someone taking a Phil class for the first time like I did. The content is interesting but discussion section is usually pretty dry but the TAs do a good job of answering questions about the material.

This professor is the best. If you ever get a chance, you need to take him. I had him for philosophy 6 and the honors section. He is the nicest, most caring professor i have ever met. The best thing about him is that he is great at teaching, he lectures well, very well organized. (this is a big deal because a lot of the philosophy professors i have had are HORRIBLE lecturers) The class isnt easy, mainly because so much material is covered, but you learn so many interesting things, you actually want to learn and not just work for a grade.

Selling: Descartes "Meditations, Objections, and Replies" with graded quizzes for $20 210-693-9195 This class was VERY hard to follow and do well in -- especially because the TA was very specific in grading without any explanation beforehand. Normore is good though, just make sure your TA isn't too bad and you ask questions.

Fall 2018 - Normore is an amazing professor and I would recommend this fiat lux. I am a philosophy major and this class made me so happy to be studying philosophy. Calvin is so easy to talk to and he is a very helpful professor. I am looking forward to having him again as my professor for an upper division course, he is honestly the best.

Winter 2019 - As a first-year taking this Writing II course, I was expecting this class to be more writing-intensive than it actually was. Professor Normore is a great guy, but doesn't do much to engage students during lectures, which can become quite boring and dry. The general content of the class is pretty interesting, but the way Normore explains it can be confusing at times as he tends to digress and continue rambling on. The readings can be confusing as well, sometimes even a bit lengthy, but as long as you have a basic understanding of each philosopher you should be fine. There are two mini-examlets that are straightforward, and Normore provides study guides for both. Definitely take advantage of the TAs for the three papers required for the class, and utilize the PLF for this class if you're in AAP; that's what helped me get through the course. Overall, I would recommend as a relatively easy Writing II course.

Fall 2019 - All of the lectures are recorded. Professor Normore gave 2 essays and a final exam. Pretty easy class with interesting material. I did not go to lecture but I got a lot out of it just because of the recordings and readings we had. Very interesting class, would recommend taking Professor Normore.
