Kamaga is a fantastic professor. While some may consider what she lectures to be on the easier side, I still learnt a lot from her class, even though I took IB physics beforehand. If you get the chance, you should definitely take her class!

Professor Kamaga is a boring lecturer. Sometimes its hard to understand her slight accent, but you should be fine.

Her tests are easy too.

Horrible professor

I learned basically nothing in this class and was forced to self study Mechanics the whole quarter.

The tests are insane too (especially if you never took AP Physics)--she expects way too much (such as the moving ramp problem) and the problems never matched up to the mastering physics HW. The problems done in lecture are also nothing compared to the exams.

Do not recommend at all.

Grade: N/A

Lectures: I tried being attentive for the first half of the quarter, but she never went deeper than the basics that I learned in AP Physics C (and my teacher for that wasn't great either) so eventually I gave up on taking notes on anything but the example problems, and spent most of her lectures in a daze. Her at the time, Louis Yang, gave us great examples, and I wish I could have made his review sessions.

Homework: Far too easy, especially if you took AP physics in high school. She means to boost your grade with extra credit points, but they just boost the class average far above 100%

Midterms: READ THE POINT DISTRIBUTION BEFORE YOU START, She picks one incredibly hard problem during each midterm and it is worth 40% of the points. Nothing in the mandatory Mastering Physics homework will prepare you for her tests, and you're friends in the other 1A lectures will laugh at how simple your test is compared to theirs because their professors will actually challenge them with their homework assignments. Time is a huge issue on these, so pick out the points you know you can get first.

Final: Doable if you made it through AP Physics C. The problems were difficult, but nothing you couldn't solve within 3 hours.

Overall: She expects college level performance after teaching at a high school level. I personally would rather have petitioned out of the class but I got a B+ when I though I was going to get a C because I did well on the final so maybe it wasn't so bad after all.

Quarter: Summer 2021
Grade: A

This review is for PHYSICS 5B. Kamaga was very disorganized and didn't communicate well with students about logistics. Not many people attended class because her lectures were mainly going over the textbook. She did try to make her own demos and talk to students and was a nice person. The discussion worksheets were graded on completion and you don't need to attend discussion because no one really works together anyways. Quizzes and the final were on gradescope and the questions were worded weirdly. She does drop your lowest quiz and there were some opportunities for extra credit.
