Celia Feramisco is hands down one of the best Professors at UCLA. I took this class during A-Sesh and she continues to bring joy to each lesson she teaches. I recommend buying the books on the syllabus because every answer to the test are found directly in the book. The final project is alot of your grade so make sure you have good partners and a good idea for your marketing pitch.

If you are interested in pursuing a career in marketing and want a better understanding of the industry, this class is a great one! I was able to learn a lot of tangible skills such as creating a creative brief, positioning statement, and how to overall market a product. What I really liked about the class was the opportunity to network with industry professionals. Professor Feramisco brings in a few guest speakers during the quarter which allows the course to be very interactive and engaging. There was a midterm and final, but they weren’t too difficult. There was also a group project so make sure you find a good group to team with because you will be working with them for the entirety of the class. Also, be sure to put in the effort when completing the homework write-ups because Professor Feramisco sometimes is a tough grader.

The entire class is one large group project split throughout the quarter. As long as you attend lectures, listen closely to instructions and pick a good group this class is an easy A. The only reason I got an A- is because i would leave early.

Celia is just about the best professor I've had. She's such a sweet and helpful woman. She cares a lot about the material and about student learning.
I love marketing so I found the content pretty interesting; however, lecture is 3 hours long and not very interactive so I often got extremely bored midway through. I also found it pretty hilarious how salty she got that people didn't go to lecture. I would really recommend attending though, because she gives tips that are useful for the homework and paper. Also, that's the best way to actually learn the material!
The workload is very manageable. There are three assignments each worth 10% of your grade. They literally each took <1 hour to complete for me, and I'm the type of person who goes over my stuff several times. The midterm and final are both worth 15% and they are extremely easy if you use the study guide. The study guide is pretty much the test. The bulk of the work is the 16-page paper you work on in groups, but even that isn't that much work as long as you're working with people who pull their own weight. There's also a presentation worth 10%, but that was scrapped this quarter because of Ms. Rona.
Celia grades pretty leniently, as long as you do everything you're supposed to. There's a super specific grading rubric in the syllabus for each assignment, so if you cover all the necessary points, you'll do well. Otherwise, you won't get a good grade, and, honestly, that's on you because she tells you exactly what to do to perform well.
I would really recommend this class! You will gain a lot of valuable knowledge, especially if you want to go into marketing/advertising.

Comm 148 with Feramisco is definitely a class I would recommend to Communication majors. Not only is the subject of the class extremely important for anyone who wants to go into the marketing or advertising industry, the group project of the class also gives you the opportunity to gain hands on experience planning a marketing campaign. The tests were fairly straightforward, each question comes from the study guide she gives beforehand and each answer is found in the textbook.

This class involves a group project that begins from Week 2 all the way until Week 10. Take this class with a reliable group of friends, or learn to be a good team player with a random group! You are able to choose who you work with. I was fortunate to get a random group of hard-working and creative people, but not everyone was so lucky.

You NEED the textbook in this class, or split the cost of one with friends. The midterm and final are based off of the textbook. She gives you a study guide for the midterm and final and all of the material on the tests are in the textbook. If it's not on the study guide, it will not be on the test. The midterm and final are extremely easy even if you just go over the study guide once. The questions basically just ask for the definitions of terms in her study guide, so just do your due diligence with it and you'll be good! The final was actually easier than the midterm.

The main bulk and work of this class is in the aforementioned group project. You and your group are to come up with a product or service and work on three individual assignments revolving around what you choose, and then also work on a group final paper (16+ pages) for the final project. The final paper is obviously split up among you and your team members, so it's really not too much work since you will only be doing around six pages depending on how big or small your group is. The three individual assignments based on your groups product or service are easy if you just read the instructions in the syllabus, but she is a very critical grader for these assignments. Follow her rules and the instructions in the syllabus and slides!

There are no points gained or docked from not attending lecture except for the final day of group presentations. You are not required to go to lecture. She is a fun person and has good things to put her two cents into, but the lecture is not needed for a good grade (if that's all you're looking for) since the tests are based on the textbook, and the assignments and slides are on CCLE. I enjoyed lectures, but on days I felt sick, I knew I wasn't missing much by not attending.

Overall, I had a good time in this class, but it definitely would not have been good if I didn't have a good group. Find people who are able to meet for working on the project, and that have a good work ethic! Good luck and have a good next quarter!

FERAMISCO IS THE BEST!!
If you're interested in the marketing & advertising industry, be sure to take this course before your time here is over!
This was the first class I took here at UCLA where I felt I learned something actually applicable to what I wanted to do.
Feramisco's lectures are clear, engaging, and the class overall is pretty straightforward.
Understand that:
1. First hw assignment: She grades tough, so make sure you get at least a B on that one otherwise your grade will tank from that (10%)
2. Group project: Pick reliable people who can meet in person when there's an assignment coming up. Check each other and be detail-oriented; the final project is 40%!
3. Midterms and finals: Easy, straight from the study guide and textbook. Free PDF of textbook online, don't both buying.
4. Other hws: be detail-oriented, and for the press release and creative brief, better write a little more to hit every point than forget points.
Also, definitely hit her up for advice for internships and overall marketing pointers. She also brings in guest speakers, which is really awesome :)

This class is fine. Group project will determine 400 of the 1000 total points, so pick people that are reliable.
Her homework assignments are not described thoroughly... we'll make parts of a marketing project without any examples, templates, or explanation of what she expects. She'll mention what the assignment is, why it's used, but in terms of actual formatting and information, it can be full of guess work. There's a point scale of 0-100 for each assignment, and while it'll be like "you'll get 0-10 for formatting", the actual information within each assignment can be supremely unclear, this coming from someone who went to every single class and office hours.
She grades harder than expected. Got docked tons of points for my group's final project (which ended up being 26 pages) because our charts were not big enough and other minimal errors. That caused my grade to drop to an A-, despite getting 100% on both the midterm and final.
Midterm and final basically match the study guides, so know them well, to get the study guide answers, you will need the text book.

Overall, the class is fine, but be VERY precise, and do not mess up a thing with the group project.

Super easy A, going to lecture isn’t required and all test questions are found in the textbook. Both the midterm and the final were pretty much exactly the same as the study guides she posts on CCLE. As long as you get a good group for the final project (16 page paper, but double spaced and I’m groups of 5 so it’s super easy) this class is a breeze.
