Dr. Clark is one of the sweetest people you'll ever meet, but she can get VERY confusing as a professor. The content covered in lectures and on the online practice quizzes is very different than the content on the midterm and final. She also doesn't take questions during the midterm and final, so you have to write whatever questions you have on the back of the test and she says she'll go over them (she doesn't). Also, she assigns a group lab at the beginning of the quarter and make sure you choose a good group, bc that will be your group for the final lab project at the end of the quarter. Overall, she is a nice person, but not a very organized teacher
Psych 10 was the first psych class I've ever taken and I was nervous going in but TAKE IT WITH CLARK. She is very engaging and always does fun experiments so you con test some of the things you learn on yourself and and a feel like i learned a lot of material in a very concise way. If you go to class PAY ATTENTION and you honestly should be fine. The tests are pretty easy, the midterm is late around week 6/7 and she says the final is cumulative but its 70/80 percent stuff from after the midterm so its not too bad just make flashcards for the terms. DON'T BUY THE TEXTBOOK, its a waste of money, didn't open mine once tbh. She is very supportive in office hours and takes the time to explain things as many times as you need to understand the topic. Also pay attention to where you sit for the first labs because that will be where you have to sit every time, and lastly get your 6 SONA units done before week 4 so that you don't have to worry about them during and after midterm season when there aren't any left so you don't have to write papers.
For Psych 85 with Courtney:
-selling my study guide for 10$ (for both) the midterm and final for this class. Spent a lot of time answering these and putting them together which will definitly give you an A. :) Shoot me a text 209-345-6961
I absolutely loved this class. I found it to be engaging and very interesting. A few tips though:
-Go to class and pay attention! everything on the midterm and final comes from the class (in fact, you don't even need the textbook), and part of the grade is based on participation which is just easy iClicker questions (that also help you prepare for the tests)
-If you're confused about something go to office hours. Clark is very supportive and is willing to sit down with you to discuss anything you want. I also highly recommend that you go to office hours after the first midterm. For my class at least, we had to go to office hours to see our tests and I found the feedback very helpful. Clark is also super nice and friendly.
-Do all the labs, they're easy points and you can complete most of them in class
-Enjoy the class! It's interesting and very little work. If you just pay attention in class, you'll barely have to study :)
Prof Clark was not very helpful. The midterm and final were both extremely detail oriented, with questions on topics briefly mentioned in lecture (<2 minutes) and super specific pieces of information literally mentioned only once. The study sessions led by a TA before exams were also very unhelpful, covering topics very generally/broadly in contrast to the content of the actual exams. Would not recommend this professor.
If you want a quarter full of poorly worded questions and ambiguous multiple choice questions/answers, then take Courtney Clark’s class. The information in this class is straightforward and if memorized, you could probably redo all of her lectures yourself. Does this mean you’ll do well on tests? Nope. You could know the smallest details of each topic covered and still do horribly because you cant figure out what on earth she is asking or how to answer it. Unfortunately, this class is an intro class so it comes across as easy and is actually required for a few majors, but if I had the choice not to take this, I wouldn’t.
First ever psych class. Made me interested in the topic. She is a really nice and engaging lecturer. Uploads all her slides. However, you still have to go to lecture for iclicker attendance (you don't know if it's the beginning/end of class).
Professor Clark was very insightful and knowledgeable about psychology. She really cared for her students and their learning, and made psychology easy to understand even for people who had never taken a psych class before. In addition, her tests were all straightforward and she always made it clear what would be tested and what wouldn't be tested. I would take this class again!
- easy class if you are good at memorizing, tests not really application based, just memorize the definitions of vocab
- lab component is super easy and bs work
- have a 2 page final lab report at end of quarter, really quick and easy
- test: midterm got 100% and final 96% just know definitions on slides
- clear slides. I like how she reads off slides
- textbook never used
