Boring class. The instructions for assignments were unclear at times and no clear grading rubric was given for any of the major assignments, including a field notebook that seemed to have no clear purpose. It's an ok class if you just want to get Writing I done and dusted. She's helpful in office hours and quite nice. Just not a fun class at all tbh.

This class was honestly really useless. The homework was excessive, considering it's supposed to be an "easier" English class. The expectations for us were way too high, and it sometimes seemed like the professor wanted us to drop out of our engineering majors. It isn't hard to get a good grade, but you have to put in the work for it, which honestly most of us didn't have any time for. She made us do tasks like drawing, which everyone thought was extremely tedious considering we all had math/chem/compsci/etc tests to study for.

I feel like anyone who took ENGCOMP thought it was a useless class...

I heard that Dana's workload during Fall 2019 was pretty big, but she must've sized down for Winter 2020 when I took it because it was reasonable. There wasn't a written work to do every week, it was mostly reading the book "Falter" by Bill McKibben and that was okay, though near the end of the quarter she set entire parts of the book (7+ chapters) to read in one week. We did about 5 big works of writing and they were fine, she gave good feedback after turning in the draft. One time though she set the turnaround for one of the drafts for these big pieces to be in two days and that was a bit wack. We emailed her to ask for an extension and she was chill with it. She's chill with a lot of things honestly, people weren't turning up because the class was boring (it was) and she didn't really investigate that much into it.

Overall a boring class with decent workload, don't expect it to be a no-work easy pass but it's aight.

I thought that the english composition class for engineers would be easy... We had plenty of assignments to do, and at times these seemed quite disjointed from the syllabus and I did not know what I was doing. Not to mention the book that she chose (Falter, by McKibben) is a tough read. She loves the book though, and if you try to refute some of the points that the author brings up she'll give you a funny look. I believe that there are easier english classes out there that you should try out. Selling the book for 17 on free and for sale (almost brand new, i never brought it to class).

The professor was often vague about expectations and gave poor grades on assignments when they didn't do specifically what she wanted, even though she never told us that that was. The assignments themselves are not extremely difficult and are pretty minimal writing for an english course, though they can be time consuming.
