There are a~i multiple choice options (9 options to choose from) where multiple concepts are tested within 1 problem. This means that: even if you know the answer to 8 of them, if you don't know the 9th one, you'll get it wrong. There goes a huge percentage of your grade! The multiple choice options include, "1 is false, 2 is false, 3 or more" so you really gotta have it down to the T!

Lecture-wise, he is very clear. He provides numerical examples for everything you need to know how to solve.

Mathematical questions are EASY in his exams. They are fill-in-the-blank (enter numbers) or upload by PDF during exam time [COVID-19 quarter]. But the conceptual multiple-choice questions can be challenging. Because again, even if you know 99% of the concepts, that 1% can screw you over.

Anyway, great class.

Professor McDevitt is honestly one of the (few) great (and clear) professors in this, and the accounting department. He never uses textbooks and his exams are always what he says in lecture or what is written down on the board, so definitely pay attention throughout the class or you will be lost.
He has a no calculator policy on exams, but that just makes the numbers a lot easier to deal with; if there are difficult numbers, then he will give you a "cheat sheet."
He is pretty funny, in a nerdy sense.
Definitely recommend, 10/10 would take this class again.

Prof. McDevitt is the best econ professor I've had in my four years at UCLA. His lectures are very clear and organized. He tests you on the material he teaches you and provides very helpful study guides. He has a geeky sense of humor that only we econ majors can appreciate. If you go to lectures and use his study guides there is no reason you can't get an A in his class.
