Why are so many of the GE courses so intense? This course was crazy hard, it seems laughable that it would be-but you have to memorize alot of material that is not even gone over in class. The labs are pretty time consuming and regardless if your sick, you will get an F, if you don't show up-no make up offered. Unless you want to major in Earth sciences then I would not advise anyone to take this course.

Oceanography: The material for this class is essentially very easy. A good ge for non-south campus majors. However, I could not bring myself to attend lectures because this teacher was very boring. When I did go I would doze off in boredom. The labs are where I learned all the information I needed for the course. Grab a buddy and you can be done within an hour. Slides and audio are available for the class, which makes it easy to ditch. The tests are ridiculously detailed, which means even though you study you still may not do well. If you want to do well on the test, you have to remember marginal details. This class is very boring but also easy. If I had paid more attention I probably would have gotten an A.

Fall 2019 - I don't have a particular interest in science, but this class was an easy GE that fills the lab requirement. Lectures were Bruin-casted and the textbook reading was short and pretty straight forward. Drake co-lectured for half the quarter and I really liked her. The labs were long but easy if you remember to cram last weeks material a few minutes before class. Schauble gives 2% extra credit, which bumped my grade up from A- to an A. The final is easier than the midterms, and you can do well on tests simply from paying attention in lectures and/or reviewing the textbook, but I found lectures more helpful than reading. You only really will do bad if you get lazy: all you have to do is spend a little time to understand the concepts

Intro to Oceanography. Overall, this class was fun. Labs and attendance to labs contribute to your final grade. 1 quiz during each lab but they're super easy and also a lab final which is also super easy. Classes are pod cast, I literally skipped almost half the lectures and watched his recordings online instead. If you're planning to skip lecture, watch his pod casts. His lecture slides are on the website so you don't really have to take notes. His 2 mid terms are super easy, just get his previous test papers from the test bank do them. Also, read the book, it's very very straightforward. However, this class gets a little boring towards the end, nothing unbearable, just a little memorizing work as you get closer to finals. His finals is not difficult but you still have to study for it. He also gives you a lot of chances for extra credit. He had about 10+ seminars and 2 movies to watch, each 0.5% after you submit an essay about half a page to a page long. You can go up to 2% which is actually a lot. The TAs for this class are very nice too. I really recommend this class when Prof. Edwin teaches it.
