Spring 2018 - I'm writing this on Tognozzi's profile since her name was on the study list for Italian 1, but Adele Sanna was the sole instructor for my class. I am absolutely brand new to Italian, so an A is definitely possible for anyone really. The class itself was super engaging. Participation is key (it's worth 15% of your total grade). Examinations count for about 50% of your grade, and the rest of your grade is determined by group presentations, an oral exam, and writing compositions (super easy). Sanna really was a great professor that eased the whole class into the complex world of the Italian language. In fact, I signed up for this class 2 weeks late and managed to catch up by Week 3 thanks to Sanna's help. Workload is super light (maybe like 5-10 minutes per day), and the exams are very manageable. Not much to say other than Sanna is a great professor and the class is very manageable as long as you can commit an hour a week outside of class.

When I found out that professor Tognozzi would be teaching Italian 6 I did think twice about whether or not I should take the course. The concept of a professor teaching a language course is almost unheard of and it was a bit intimidating. However, after attending the first day of class I knew that I would be just fine. At times the work load did seem overwhelming, however it wasn't impossible to accomplish. Furthermore, the work is designed to make students think outside the box and begin to use their ananytical and critical skills with Italian prose. As far as the stories go, it is true that some were boring, but for the most part they were enjoyable. She is a very funny and charismatic woman who truly cares about her students learning as much as possible about Italian culture, literature and language. I highly recommend any course taught by her. Her grading is very fair and her lectures are well organized and enjoyable. The tests are not very difficult, if you take the time to study the material. Readings are very important for tests (as jensen states below), however she gives her students ample opportunity within class and during office hours to clear up any misunderstandings, etc. All in all she is a great professor.
