I actually had Esha for Women Studies 10. She is an amazing professor! Not only is she adorable, but she is also extremely concerned, helpful, and sweet. She really gets into discussion during lecture, which makes the class a thousand times more interesting. She encourages everyone to participate, and even memorizes the names of those who do! She is very passionate about the subject matter, which personally, i found extremely interesting. There's a lot of readings, but most of them are pretty short and the ones that are long are fast reads because they're interesting, and, for the most part, pretty contemporary. She is the nicest lady ever; extremely approachable and very kind. I would definitely, 100% recommend this class to anyone, including guys. It's not difficult at all. The midterm is a breeze if you go over the study guide. It's very straightforward, simple, and short. They also grade fairly. The final is take home, and is pretty much formatted the same way as the midterm, just longer. I loved my TA, Jennifer Musto. So if you have the chance of having her, definitely take her! She's passionate, intelligent, and also really sweet. Although she posts the power points online, and even sends most of them straight to your email, I attended almost every lecture simply because I enjoyed Esha's stories and found the class interesting. The discussions can be hilarious, as are some of the stories Esha tells. She also shows great artwork and movie clips. Overall, great professor, great TAs, and great class! Definitely take it!

Fall 2021 - I took this F21 which was online. I highly recommend Professor De—she is not only super accommodating, but she also intellectually challenges you and pushes you out of your comfort zone to become a better writer. The class is interesting: the readings/topics all on masculine/feminine/gendered characteristics in society. The class time is spent analyzing/discussing movies/music videos (Avengers, Jlo, bollywood dance videos, kpop videos,Beyonce, Spice girls, shaolin fight movies, etc.). There were 3 papers, the first one being the longest (approx 7-10 pages) and for this first one she meets with each of the students to discuss the topic and give guidance. Second one was 4-5 pages, and third paper was 2 pages. The final is a revision paper, where you choose a past paper that you want to substantially revise with her in a conference. During the conference she gives you a lot of notes which are super helpful. Overall, the work is light and very manageable and it really is "the more work you put in the class the more you get out of it". Through taking her class I've definitely grown a lot in my confidence as a writer and also in my critical analysis. Highly recommend.

Spring 2018 - Professor De is great at helping her students become better writers. At first, the assignments, (of which there are only a few), might seem challenging. However, if you put forth your best effort and ask for help when needed, there is no reason why you should not succeed in this class. I truly feel that I have developed a better ability to write a complex paper, which is a very good asset to have while writing in college, regardless of the class. What I particularly liked about the research paper assignment is that we were able to pick out our own topic, which made writing the paper much more enjoyable. I also enjoyed listening to all of the research paper presentations, as they were not only entertaining but also very informative. Overall, I would definitely recommend taking this class. You will become a better writer and will feel proud of what you have accomplished.

Spring 2020 - Dr. De was a really nice woman, and I'm overall pretty happy I took this as a writing II class. The material we learned wasn't necessarily the most interesting, but the fact that we were online made it much easier to sit through the 2 hour lectures. Mostly, the class is spent going through a Powerpoint, watching film clips, and discussing issues of diversity in the clips. You have to do some talking during class (as a warning). From a workload standpoint, the class is pretty easy as there are occasionally some readings and small assignments. Most of your grade is determined by a research presentation, followed by a research paper (12-13 pages) on the same topic. Dr. De lets you pick your own topic to research, so as long as you choose something that's somewhat interesting it isn't too much of a problem. Overall, really caring professor and a somewhat easier writing II class if you put in the effort.

I had women's studies 10 with her, and I definitely agree with the person below me. Although I had a different TA. I think her name was Rahle or something like that and she wasn't very effective, she didn't really seem to know what she was doing, and her accent made things very difficult to understand. She also gives out these weekly quizes on the readings, however I found out they aren't even graded. Very lenient grader though. Although my experience with my TA wasn't the best, it wasn't too bad either, interesting discussions in there, I would say definitely take this class, very interesting.
