Quarter: Winter 2018
Grade: B+

Coming into this class, I was really interested in Astro 5: Life on other planets. The first half of the quarter was about lipids, carbohydrates, and a bunch of other things (avoiding curse words here) very indirectly related to what the topic of the course was.
But that was fine.
The absolute, WORST, part of this class is how unorganized and ambiguous Coriniti's slides are. He doesn't explain them that well in class either.
However, I would take this class again because the second half of the class was very interesting, even though the slides didn't get any better. It was about actual other planets and solar systems, and how life/Earth/the universe was created. Nothing to do with lipids or carbohydrates.
There is a small curve to make the class average a B/B+.

He is an extremely tough professor. He is so profound at physics to the point where he probably doesn't fathom that we don't understand everything immediately. He zooms through the material and diverges a lot from what the book says or the order that it's supposed to be in. He is pretty impatient and is not afraid to subliminally belittle you when you ask him a question in class. His midterms were OK but oftentimes he would not be clear on what he expects us to know. The final was tough and included like 2/6 problems we've never seen variations of. Says he curves the class, but he barely did.

WARNING: don't attend his lectures, he will confuse you big time. he will make a simple problem look impossible. besides, he spends 90 percent of the time doing proofs and not things relevant to the problems you are expected to do on the test. his TA however was amazing at explaining things so do attend the discussions. oh and good luck.

I thought Coroniti was a good professor and lecturer. At first though (around the first midterm), I could not stand his conceptual style of teaching. However, once I started to figure out his teaching style I found him to be an effective professor. His midterms are straightforward; however, straightforward does not necessarily mean that they were easy (with averages in the 40's). However, he does tell you the breakdown of each exam. Additionally, his exams ask you to prove that a certain system will be equal to a certain equation. With a little knowledge and a little mathematical skill, you can usually come up with a decent answer. If you are taking Physics 6 series with Coroniti, I would recommend obtaining a copy of the book used in the 1 series (it was much more compatible with the class than Serway).

sooo rude and tactless OMG. never have i met a professor who tells you you're a failure when you go to speak to him regarding your standing in class. I am not joking or exaggerating, he shouldnt be allowed to teach. if u want to repeat the class you take with him, yes take it. otherwise u see the man run the opposite direction as quickly as you can. he is horrifically mean and has no manners. his exams make you wanna kill yourself.

I absolutely loved having professor Coroniti. He is one of the best, maybe THE best professor I have had since coming to ucla. Don't pass up a chance to take a class with him. He's not too difficult, and really cares about his students learning and understanding the material. He's amazing in every sense of the word and is a brilliant professor!

== I TOOK ASTR3 WITH CORONITI ==

Cornoiti was good. His lectures are very detailed and you will have to know almost everything on them, so lecture is a good idea, even though he posts his lectures. His class is hard, but the grading is fair. He takes a lot of questions during class and never tires of it. He seems to really care that you understand all about it.
For the exams, seriously try to memorize (or at least be VERY familliar with) all the slides. I know that sounds ridiculous when you see all the data, but he will ask about almost all of it on the multiple-choice exams.

I took astro 3. Everyone recommended the class, but never said anything about professors. I just chose Professor Coroniti. He is fair, and understands that this class is challenging, so he grades on a B average. However I really did not understand his lectures, or understood anything really. After lectures, and I tried reading the power points again, it didn't make sense! The textbook makes more sense, and when my t.a. reviewed with me, he made it very clear and simple. The professor is a really nice guy, and knows his stuff, but he makes everything detailed, that it's a little overwhelming. The tests were extremely hard, and I didn't do well.
