Very interesting class if you are into linear algebra and MATLAB, that was the cool part.

It's also a pain in the ass, homework took me anywhere from 5 to 15 hours to complete each time. Lectures are hard to keep up with, because the professor mumbles and often seems uninterested. For example about seeming uninterested, on the first day of class he suggested that if you are genuinely interested in the subject that you should drop out of the class and take it with the other prof named Vandenberghe. I think he is sort of overrated on this website, not sure how.

Anticipating I will get a B, not sure how the curve for tests goes.

Professor Lorenzelli is nice and professional. He provides well written (as in organization but maybe not in handwriting) notes. He would try his best to clarify things in class, and he can be easily accessed outside of class. Perhaps more importantly, he is a very kind human being, that he would try to accommodate everybody's needs and you could always talk to him if you need anything special (ddl extensions and etc).

Do not take this Professor at any cost. Nobody could follow anything he's doing and when it came to exam time I was extremely under prepared. the HW is not helpful and the lecture notes are a mess, the TA discussion notes are somehow worse. He doesn't post solutions for his exams so you won't have the option to review what you did wrong on the midterm while preparing for the final. I alway fall asleep during his lectures, yes they are that boring and it's all theory. There is an extra credit project that im unsure as to how much its worth but that too doesn't depend on your knowledge from this class but rather your knowledge on Python and machine learning.

I personally loved Lorenzelli. He is a very nice person and he really loves what he does. It is refreshing to have a professor that isn't a pompous ass.

I learned a lot from the class and found it all very interesting. I couldn't ask for more.

Professor Lorenzelli is a sweet guy and he's really understanding of student struggles. I had him for 102 and 113, and will be taking him again for 114 because I like him so much :) He was very accommodating during COVID online learning. The online class was very well-structured, (20% homework, 40% best 4 of 5 quizzes, 40% final project). Shoutout to Alex Johnson the GOAT TA.

TAKE THIS PROFESSOR

definitely by FARRR my favorite professor I've had so far here at UCLA. Unlike many of the other EE professors who tend to be geniuses and therefore extremely conceited and unwilling to help, professor Lorenzelli himself admits that 'many of you are probably smarter than I am' and is truly concerned and passionate about teaching. Although he speaks in a soft-ish voice, which I do admit, has had me falling asleep some of the days, he is extremely approachable and a warm caring person in general. Furthermore, he is very flexible and will delay coursework to make sure that we have fully learned the material! If you ask him a question on a homework problem he will literally tell you how to solve and check your answers for you if you are having serious trouble in the class. He even gave us his # to have us text him LOL
10/10 would recommend

Professor Lorenzelli is pretty funny but sometimes he gets really annoying. His lectures was complete but he also gave us professor's Fragouli notes which I think it was way more useful . Weekly homeworks were straight forward and good practice of course material, however the biweekly quizzes were really hard, time consuming, and weighted 40% of our grade. First week of class he said we either have a take-home final or group project which we ended up with 4 question project that took lots of time and somewhat was confusing and the grading on project was horrible. Overall I wouldn't recumbent him for this class or any other classes, but take professor Fragouli at any cost.

Flavio was very nice and funny when I took him for EE 131A! He has a pretty soft voice, but makes up for it with a nice lecture style that keeps everyone awake during the full two hours. He's willing to help, and there's nothing really bad about him. I'd definitely take him again if he were teaching another class in the EE department!

The homeworks weren't too bad for the most part, considering the TA was quite helpful on the more difficult problems. The midterm was a piece of cake, but the final was a little trickier.

Nevertheless, Flavio really likes to use the board A LOT, so be prepared to take several pages of notes each day. It will be difficult to gather all the concepts during the second half of the course, when he started to write more and more.

The project was kind of difficult, but the good thing about it is that Flavio would let us work in groups of up to three.

His grading, I imagine, is very fair. I finished in the top 10% of the class, and that was good enough for an A+!

I highly recommend Flavio for ANY course he is teaching.

Professor Lorenzelli is a really nice guy and definitely ranks high up on my list of good EE professors. While he is a little soft spoken, this can be remedied by sitting towards the front of the classroom (or you can suggest he brings a mic to class). His lectures are pretty clear he does plenty of examples, which is nice since it seems like a lot of upper division EE class professors rarely go through pertinent example problems.

The homework and computer assignments aren't bad at all. Some problems make you scratch your head a bit, but Professor Lorenzelli is very welcoming when it comes to answering questions during breaks or after class for office hours (the TA for Winter 2013, Jerry, was also awesome in this regard). His exams (which were a joint effort to produce between Professor Lorenzelli and the TA Jerry) were fair overall, with the midterm being extremely easy (92/110 average) and the final being about what you would expect from an EE final (61/100 average).

Other than that, Professor Lorenzelli is fun to talk to during office hours because speech and image processing is a subject he is very much interested in, so I encourage you to talk to him about any subject related that may or may not be related to the class. Finally, if you pay attention to lectures/discussions and stay on top of homework you'll come out of the class knowing the material well and wind up with a good grade. I would definitely recommend taking EE 114 with Professor Lorenzelli, or whatever other courses the EE department has him spot fill for.

Not the greatest professor, but probably the most down-to-earth professor in the entire EE department. While he knows his lectures and the content are fairly dry, his office hours are extremely helpful and among the best I have ever gone to.

The course is heavily math-based, and doing the homework will get you fine-tuned for the exams. The TA office hours are also very good (I had Sudarsan :))

I would love to take him again in other upper division EE classes.
