I had Prof. Johnson for Chicano 10B, and it was my favorite class that quarter! She is such an engaging lecturer I was able to pay attention for the whole 2 hour class. She is also very passionate about the material which shows in her teaching. The exams are not difficult, and she gives you a straightforward study guide that is actually like the test. She definitely wants to see her students succeed. Would take another class with her for sure. Readings were dense but very interesting.
I really enjoyed this class! There were a few times that class got cancelled because of emergencies (the fires, protesting, etc.) and some points in the class where we weren’t really sure what we should expect next, but the professor is extremely engaging and loves to hear from students!
Having this be one of my first classes coming to UCLA I can say that it has been my favorite. Their is a group project that is due at the end of the quarter spaced out very fairly and will in some way help our surrounding community (LA area). For me we were in charge of updating a website made for a program that dealt with the friends and families of victims from homicides. Many of us went to the organization and filmed actual testimony's. Professor Johnson as a whole is an amazing human being she is literally the sweetest and you can tell she cares for her students/is passionate about her profession. I would definitely recommend this class.
My favorite class this quarter! Professor Johnson is one of the best! She is one of the few professors that truly cares about the students learning.
professor johnson is amazing! super fun and easy class. i did nothing all quarter and somehow got an A. probably the reason why i got an A-
Professor Gaye is so inspiring and an amazing leader at UCLA. She doesn't just care about her students regurgitating information onto a test, she wants them to absorb the info and actually apply it to real life scenarios. I loved her lectures and the discussion section is very hands on with a group project that you visit an organization and make a difference in their social media usage. There are a few key word quizzes in this class but they are no big deal. Between guest speakers, the easy workload, and the real life wisdom learned in this class this is an awesome option.
Take this class! Take Professor Gaye Johnson! I absolutely loved this class! I learned so much, but Professor Johnson teaches in a way that it is not burdensome to learn. It was my favorite class during my first fall quarter. Our grades were predominantly determined by a group project in which we were helping different community organizations during our discussion sections. These projects also made the class so much better. Through these projects, we were implementing what we were learning in class to better the lives of many of our local minorities. Overall, Professor Gaye Johnson is one of the most caring professors I have met. She walks into class with the biggest smile on her face, and greets us as if it is a huge family reunion. I would definitely take any class with her! ! !
Also, she cares about problems going on in the world and is very passionate about making a difference and inspiring her students to raise their voices and take action.
this class was amazing, professor johnson is the sweetest and most understanding professor i've had at my entire time at UCLA, i wish every professor was like her! given, i did have her during the first quarter we went online so she was much more lenient, BUT here work was still there. she will do her best to accommodate any concerns you have, it is very evident she cares about her students.
her content is extremely interesting because she uses direct sources for numerous topics, there is SOOO much more to resistance than what we were taught! she educates on numerous forms that most have not heard of and I'm so grateful to her for introducing me to those who have gone unheard but whose work have been critical. i really enjoyed this class!
Nice teacher just boring class. Super easy, barely any workload
I ended up really enjoying this class. I learned so much from Professor Johnson and she was extremely knowledgeable and engaging. The group projects were also pretty engaging and as long as you showed up and put good work in you will do well in the class.
