The class isn't so bad, you just need to make sure you understand and listen to the lectures. I would listen to all the lectures on podcast and pause and go and he went through it. It's a lot of material, not necessarily hard though. I never read the book, but really knew my lectures well and did well in the class. The entire class is based on your midterm and final. Just study hard and you should be fine. I have all my notebook with all the lectures notes and my study guides. They should be efficient to do well in the class.

This class is a piece of cake if you study a certain way.
Evolutionary Psych is usually known as "common sense", but the way he tests makes sure you know HIS examples of what certain definitions are.
The class is 45% midterm, 55% final-- no homework. The average on the first midterm was a 33/45 I think-- he curved this to a B. The answer choices are hard-- A, B, C, then D would be A&B, E would be B&C.
The exams more so test you on the examples he gives in class-- so I would recommend going to lecture and writing down the specific examples he notes. For reference, I got the average on the first exam, then a 93% raw score (not curved) on the final and still ended up with a B+. Kind of odd grading system, but what can you do.
Dr. Barrett is wonderful. This class is simple, straight forward, and doesn't complicate anything too much, goes over concepts patiently, loves answering student questions, and thinks a lot about the way he phrases things and puts thought into his word choice during lecture. His expectations of you are very reasonable, your grade is based on just a midterm and a final but he curves nicely and doesn't make the exams too difficult or tricky. Since the lectures are videocasted most students don't even show up to the lecture at all which I think is shit because he puts effort into them and if you just show up and pay attention and take some notes the material just sinks in since it's nothing too difficult to grasp and you can just review concepts and some terminology before the exams and do well. I'd definitely take another class with him if I had the chance, he made this a nice, light, and not-too-demanding or draining lecture while also keeping it interesting and thought-provoking.
Easy A class especially if you have taken classes about evolution. There is no homework at all, and you don't even have to attend lectures since they are podcasted. Prof Barrett is really chill and a good lecturer. The course reader is pricy but fortunately the assigned readings are not really necessary for exam preparation. Simply understand the slides and you are good to go.
