Where to begin.... S.Y.S. (SAVE YOU SOUL)Calahan has got to be the worst teacher, by far, I've ever had. Her class is RIDICULOUS and extremely PATHETIC. First of all a class being that of 50 minutes, is not enough for this lady to explain how to use basic math in my EVERYDAY LIFE. Like I'm seriously going to use a wave detector while bouncing a ball to detect the waves it makes to find how to draw a freakin sine graph from that. That's the problem with her. She teaches math with examples emphasizing models that can be deferred from everyday life. When it comes to home works, quizzes, and tests, that's what its all about. I spent endless amounts of hours doing my homework online because I didn't know how to solve the problems which were not even based on lectures. Honestly, this class is a waste of time with this teacher. If I would've known better before I took this class, I would've taken it with Greene. I mean seriously,if she's getting so many bad reviews and students were complaining to her inside and outside of class, shouldn't she change her ways of teaching? Her midterms and especially her final are nothing you expect. If a lot of people are failing her class, it totally says a lot about the teacher. This class shouldn't be as hard as she makes it, yet it is.

COURSE TAKEN IS MATH 1 Everybody who said Dallas (formerly known as Calahan) was a bad teacher and the class was DIFFICULT is a freshman. Math 1 is easy. Quit your whining. If you can accept the fact that this course is an exercise in: 1. Identifying the problem 2. Breaking it down to its parts 3. Taking the time to solve the problem Then you will do fine. If you're looking for a class where regurgitation will get you an A go back to HS. Here are a couple of hints (They DO work. Take them or leave them.): 1. Study in blocks of at least 3 hours. 2. Attention span is learned skill. Not an innate ability. Practice WILL improve it.

She is now Heather Dallas. Really disagreeable instructor. She never has office hours, never replies to emails, has poorly written homework assignments with ambiguities all over the place, and spends way too much time in class talking humblebragging and namedropping famous education professionals rather than actually teaching us Secondary Methods for teaching mathematics. We "learn" so much theory that we have already learned before in the prerequisites to this class at the expense of learning actually how to lesson plan, how to engage students, specific aspects of the common core, and so on. Unfortunately this course is required for the math for teaching major and is part of the teacher credentialing program so if you want to get your credential as a UCLA undergrad you're shit out of luck. Wait and apply to TEP so you can take Jaime Park's grad level Secondary Methods course instead and actually learn something. Like we spent a fucking 5 weeks on non-Euclidean geometry in Math 105B even though everyone had taken Math 123 or Math 120A where these concepts had been addressed rigorously. TEACH US HOW TO LESSON PLAN. jesus
