I didn't get my grade yet - so this will be a pretty genuine evaluation. I think this class was very abstract but it provides some key points to restructuring the education system and also what teachers need to do to motivate children. It's also about misdiagnosing kids as having learning disabilities, which are different from learning problems. I learned alot about the intricate system of diagnosing children and interventions. He's a good guy and wants to help you. I do wish that this class was more discussion-focused (although a lot of is, already), I still felt that him lecturing was a bit boring. I do wish he would bring more examples or stories in - it made the class more alive. During one class he read a story about a little boy who was misdiagnosed and people ended up crying. 2 essay format tests - really not bad if you skim over the reading and go over the test questions he gives you. Give him a try, often the elderly teachers are the more caring teachers (especially those in the education field).

Winter 2020 - So I came into this class thinking it would be an easy elective and I definitely underestimated it. It is a class that is composed of a midterm and a final (both essays), nothing more, so it is an extremely light workload. However, I would advise anyone taking this to be really meticulous about your essays because I was surprised with how strictly they were graded! Professor Adelman is a really sweet guy and very helpful, but his exams are definitely graded a little strict. If you take this class, just make sure to spend a lot of time really making sure you understand the information because you will not do well in the class if you don't. But overall I think Professor Adelman is a very caring professor and the class is doable if you work hard.

Professor Adelman is very entertaining in his lectures and he tries as much as possible to engage the class, even though it is a big lecture hall. The class is doable. Just do all the reading and go over the pre-test questions and you will be fine. I missed a couple lectures, but did all my readings and I got an A in the class.

Fall 2020 - I'm surprised there aren't so many positive reviews for this class, I really enjoyed it! Professor Adelman is a great lecturer-- clear and he cares very much about the curriculum. He is always engaged with student learning and happy to answer any questions. This class was interactive and quite intimate, lots of group discussion. There are no exams. You choose a related topic that interests you and give a presentation and write a paper about it. Very straightforward and simple. It was also really enjoyable to learn from fellow students and I looked forward to tuning in every week. I would definitely recommend this class and professor!

Prof. is always available outside of class. He's a really easy going guy, didn't demand too much not even for the final paper as long as you got your point across. We didn't have any assigned readings or midterms. He really emphasized class discussion. He doesn't really lecture much. Overall good professor, but this was a seminar class.
