Huang was by far the worst professor I have had at UCLA. The averages for both midterms were a 50%, but he would still lecture us after each one and tell us that we needed to study harder and his tests were actually easy rather than take responsibility for a low average. I scored a 64% and an 89% on the first and second midterms. Normally, being 15% above the average would be enough for an A-, however, Dr. Huang had a B range of 55-89 and an A range of 90-100, which made no sense given his averages. His lectures are horrible, he is hard to understand, and is very unapproachable in office hours. When I went, he seemed annoyed that I was there asking questions and did not want to go through problems even if no one else was in his office. Avoid at all costs.

Huang is one of the worst professors I have experienced so far at UCLA. His lectures are not helpful and he spends most of class just deriving the formulas that are needed for the class instead of explaining how to use them. There is homework due about once a week on mastering physics, but they're just questions that he pulls from the textbook so it can help you learn how to use the formulas. There were two midterms and a final for the class. Both midterms had an average of 50/100 and had almost no relevance to the homework assigned. All the homework was calculation based, but the midterms were mostly conceptual questions asking to find a value in terms of the variables given. Obviously since everyone did so badly there is going to be a curve, but with his curve it is almost impossible to get an A in the class. To get an A- or higher you needed to average an 80 on the first two midterms, but only a 55 or higher to get a B- or higher. He even said If you got at least an 85 on the final, you would get an A- at least no matter what your midterm grades were. The final average ended up being a 62, so it was a little easier but not by much. Overall, if you have never taken physics before and want an A, you should avoid this class.

Although this class was difficult, if you put in the work it is definitely possible to do well. I personally really liked Huang because we was very helpful and clear.

If you've never taken physics before, or if you'e rocky about the subject, absolutely do not take this class!I had no prior classes in Physics and this class was impossible; Huang often skips from the first or second step to the absolute last step/answer without any explanation as to how he got there, you're expected to figure that out on your own. If you ask him a question he will just repeat exactly what he had said before without any attempt at elaboration. He is an incredibly nice and funny professor but it's not worth how hard this course is. I enrolled in 2 tutoring sessions each week and thought they helped, Huang was very specific as to what he wanted on his exams. The exams themselves were near impossible! He allows for one cheat sheet but it's practically useless because his questions are so far from what we do in class. Even my TA said they were blatant trick questions that he was mad at. The class average for both midterms was about a 50% and instead of admitting the test was hard he would say it was our fault for not understanding. At the end of the quarter her told us that the final would weigh for 50% of our grade. He really is a nice guy but he's impossible. Absolutely do not take this course with him

I had taken two physics courses in high school, so coming in, I already had a pretty solid understanding of basic mechanics. However, I can honestly say this course was about as difficult or easier than AP physics B. I barely did any work up until week 7, but starting with angular momentum and rotations/other material that I had forgotten or hadn't learned, I had a tough time following his lectures. Every time someone asked a question in class, he simply repeated what he had sad before. Huang has great policies for homework and tests, and will raise your grade if you show improvement from test to test, and says he will give you an A in the class if you get an A on the final. I thought I did pretty badly on the final since I was sick all of week 10 and finals week, but I still managed to get a 91 while not finishing 2 or 3 questions. If you already have physics knowledge coming in, I say take the class, because there is a generous curve and you will probably get an A. The only extra work I did for studying was redoing all the homework problems before the test and I didn't go to any of my discussions.
Also he allows you a whole page front and back cheat sheet for every exam, so just make sure to write down the hard problems on your paper if you need to. He's more helpful in office hours than in lecture, and he will tell you which problems are important for the test, which basically means the problem will be on the test.

Professor Huang's lectures were 100% useless and I essentially had to teach myself everything. The tests were like the homework and thus were supposedly "easy" (according to him), but he would always change a "small" part of the problem which ended up making the question 10x more difficult. Do NOT take his class if you can possibly avoid it!

I did every problem in the book, odds and evens, so about 400 problems before both midterms. With MT averages of ~50%, I received 72% on the first midterm and an 87% on the second. Even these scores would not be enough to get me to an A- range, according to this professor.
If you look at other professors, it isn't just the difficulty of the class but also the number of A's they give out that indicate that Huang is an anomaly.

DO NOT TAKE HUANG IF YOU ARE ACTUALLY INTERESTED IN LEARNING ANYTHING. Honestly I'm someone who loves to learn and apply the things I learn. Professor Huang was a terrible teacher in that sense! Yeah he's understanding with homework, like if you need an extension he says he'll grant it for you no problem and if you get homework incorrect then you can re-do all of it and submit it at the end of the quarter for full credit, but he was honestly the worst professor I've ever had at UCLA. He didn't teach me literally anything and what's worse is he was very discouraging! His midterm averages were 49% and 51% and he said to use that his tests weren't hard, "we just didn't get the material," like what kind of professor doesn't realize that averages that low mean something is wrong with his tests. He thought they were super easy because most of them were from the homework, but change in some "small" way which actually made the problem so much harder. He also takes the HARDEST questions and put them into tests and to complete four HARD, questions that you aren't familiar with in 50 minutes is virtually impossible! His lectures were worthless, I had to teach myself everything. I went to every lecture and discussion, read the text book countless times, did all the mastering physics multiple times and the textbook questions and this class was still very difficult for me. Dr. Huang may have thought his tests were easy because his questions were derived from the mastering physics but he never ACTUALLY taught us how to do any of those problems, he just gave them as homework and they were very hard to do. He does allow for a cheat sheet but its hard to use that during a short 50 minute test. He actually said that one student just copied down the answer from the homework and submitted it on the test and got it right. Like yeah thats great but that just shows that that student literally DIDN'T LEARN ANYTHING except how to copy down a problem. It's teachers like Professor Huang that literally make learning worthless and whats worth is is that he didn't even understand how horrible of a teacher he was. I went in to office hours a couple of times and he helped me a few problems which seemed to make sense when he said them, but again he never taught us ANY OF that. In conclusion, I really would advise against taking physics with Huang. He gives terrible tests that don't test you on anything you've learned and makes education worthless, he doesn't understand that he's a terrible professor, and if you're trying to obtain any knowledge for the MCAT, this is NOT the guy for you.
